Air travel from SCL to Colombia in Feb/March 2017
I have been checking out flights from SCL to Bogota and then on to Cartagena. We are planning a short family reunion in Cartagena and then some further travel within Columbia ( Cali, Medellin, Bogota, Villa de Leyva, Barichara, for example ) before returning to SCL about a month later. So far my research has suggested that if I wanted to fly to Cartagena on the way in, and then return from Bogota, the two one way flights would be double the cost ($1000)of a return flight to either destination($500) . Makes no sense to me! Any ideas?
Second question: If you had to choose an airline between Avianca, Copa and Lan, which one would you choose?
Thirdly: All guidance, recommendations or opinions would be welcome. Tnx in advance.

I had a pretty good overall experience with Avianca.
Don't Tread On Me Either.

I am flying to Cartagena on Saturday for 3 weeks. Through Bigots with a change of planes only.
On the way back I looked at breaking the trip for 3 days in either Bogota or Lima. The extra cost for either was insignificant.
So I decided on Lima, with LATAM.
Don't know why what you want to do would be more complex....

I missed you have an open leg.
I like LATAM best of those.
Maybe your solution is LATAM return SCL to Bogora and buy a separate one way on a Colombian domestic airline to Cartagena?

there is latam international and latam colombia. As I recall the prices were cheaper from inside colombia. I think last time we flew lan in to colombia, and avianca to Cartagena and back bogata.

Both LATAM and Avianca are pretty good airlines. Not to crazy about Copa.
Try a multiple destination booking on LATAM. Even though I think the cheapest option might be to book a return trip to Bogota and then buy the domestic trips separately as suggested by Admin. Colombia has some low-cost carriers which means that domestic flights are quite cheap.
