Finding the Doctor

Post by Corinthian » Thu Mar 15, 2018 12:08 pm

Hi I'm Corinthian in Santiago I'm from the UK
and find it so difficult to make a Dr. appointment here to replace medication that was stolen from my bag in Valparaiso. If anyone could help me , not sure if this forum is still active, any suggestions would be so appreciated :D

Depends on where you are.

It is very easy, in any clinic. Usually it is much easier if you have "RUT" number but you can make an appointment with your passport just anywhere. Go to a private provider of course. You will have to pay upfront and then arrange with your health insurance back home.

If you are in Santiago integramedica is quite easy (to make appointment online, but might need RUT)and it has many of them in different "comunas"
IF you want to pay a bit more, perhaps you find an english speaking doctor in Las condes or alemana

I found that Hospital FACH had very reasonable prices and very good service, but that was last year

I would begin at a drug store (p h a r m a c y). I don't know how medical prescriptions work in the U.K., but many (most?) medicines which require a prescription in the U.S. are available over-the-counter in Chile. You will need to know the chemical name of the drug, not the marketing name.

If you have a prescription, or copy of the prescription any <SPAM WORD> may help, if you don't have it you may need to see a doctor, but as noted above many prescription drugs in other countries are over the counter in Chile.

I had a friend need something rare, his doctor emailed a PDF of the prescription that was just fine at a <SPAM WORD>, that had the ROCHE product but offered a generic at 25% of the cost, he went home with a new prescription from his doctor for 10 packs of the generic product........
It's all about the wine.
