Recommendations for Jan/Feb place

Post by mpatry » Wed Jan 24, 2018 1:38 pm

Dear all,

we are looking for decent spot to plop ourselves down on an annual basis for the next few years - January and February. Our guiding principles:

1) Quiet
2) Reasonably warm / sunny.
3) In / near a decent town / small city with at least a handful of decent restaurants.
4) Not in the desert
5) Not looking for the beach scene

I understand Pucon is a little overrun that time of year, but something along those lines. Thinking of Villarica? Puerto Varas? No need to be surrounded by expats - we speak Spanish and would be glad to hang out with locals. Perhaps there are some less well-known but decent places out there and we'd be happy to hear from you.

Thanks!

Lago Vichuquen or the town of Los Quenes, both in Region 7.

Fellow Ottawans here! I take it that you are thinking of starting next Jan?? Its a bit late for this year, but Feb might still be possible. After the winter that Ottawa has had so far, I am surprised that there aren’t more posts like yours!!! Will PM you with some ideas.

Thanks for the responses. Susie, I saw your PM but apparently don't have the ability to respond as I am new to the forum. By all means, let's talk. We are thinking of 2020 as we still have one child in the home until then. Where in Chile are you?

Spend a month in south central Chile and look around, go from the coast to the mountains stay in different places and scope it out, somewhere in the lakes district away from the main tourist areas may do the trick, there are many small town down there.....

Hmmm I would look somewhere east of Futrono or south and south east.

When I read that, came to mind rural regions of India. They disappeared into the bushes to take that plop down activity!
