Chile reconnaissance

Post by uruguayo » Fri Aug 17, 2012 9:37 am

I would like to bring the family (wife & 2 boys under 10) to Chile this summer (mid December thru end February) in order to compare and contrast life there with life here in Uruguay. Where would be a good, central, non-touristy place from which we could base ourselves from and explore the country a bit? We would drive over from Uruguay, so we will be mobile in Chile, so any place with reasonable road connections would do. Would Santiago be a good base? Given that the city will likely empty out for much of the summer season, how realistic would it be to rent a reasonably inexpensive place for 2 1/2 months in one of the nicer residencial areas such as La Reina, Ñuñoa, Provedencia or the like? Would southern Chile be too touristy and expensive at this time of year? Any suggestions would be greatfully appreciated!

Given the latitude selection of a country this long, 18 degrees S. to the end of the world, I would first take care in making a study of what type of climate that would be suitable for you and your budding family. It is a long drive. Best of luck!
