UF Whats how to convert please ?

Post by Scouser » Sun Jul 01, 2012 10:55 pm

I have been browsing the property for sale and note the prices are in UF, I understand this is something to do with inflation, but how do I find out what it equates to in Chilean pesos?

Uf 4120

Thanks all

1 uf = 22627 pesos

for the record, central bank web site is one of the few sites in Chile in English done right.

Spencer Global Chile: Legal, relocation, and Investment assistance in Chile.
For more information visit: https://www.spencerglobal.com

From USA and outside Chile dial 1-917-727-5985 (U.S.), in Chile dial 65 2 42 1024 or by cell 747 97974.

Put simply: UF is the inflation from the previous month divided by the amount of days of the next sequential month. It changes incrementally each day of the month to reach the amount by which it was divided. Normally it rises, but it can of course fall... Most salaries in Chile are adjusted according to the UF as bank mortgages are loaned in UF and therefore the repayments normally rise each month...

The UF is a holdover from the days of higher inflation and zero growth. I think it will be around for awhile longer as it insulates the Banks on long term loans, though as pointed out above it goes down at times, something the Banks don’t particularly like.
It's all about the wine.
