All documents in Chile are in spanish. You could have it traslated but everything has a cost.

Hmmmm-----Better be in Spanish otherwise you will have to have some certification via an approved translator and then would have to be notarized too----not even sure its available and you will still have issues for sure----To be clear, showing up with an english document notarized in the US without the consulate involved would be for nothing----check with the consulate on what to do, if anything, otherwise mom is going to chile i think

For: rfinmdusa
1) Was the POA only in Spanish, or also in English?
2) When you say "we took it to", do you mean you both went in person to each place, or that you sent the forms in the mail? (I received an Apostille from the Secretary of State by mail without having to travel to my state capital.)
Many many thanks!

Thanks, I assumed POA would have to be in Spanish,
but did not know if it also needed to be in English for any local notary or state authentications.

Good for you! So you shouldn't have any problems understanding what's written in the POA.

Answering your prior question, the POA needs to be in spanish only to comply with chileans laws.

It was only in Spanish.

2) When you say "we took it to",

Yes, we drove to each place. We live in Maryland outside of the D.C. Beltway so the driving around wasn't too bad. The hardest part of it all was getting the Consulate at the Chilean Embassy to respond. Once we figured out how to address the request properly is was pretty simple. Everything else was just a phone call to each place to confirm they could do it and check the hours they were open.

Good Luck!

Hi there,
I have gotten most documents I need, and have obtained certified copies and local state Apostille for them.
Believe I also need to go to a Chilean embassy and have them verify the documents?
Anyone know if they will do this by mail, or if I must go in person? (Nearest is almost 400 miles away.)
Thanks!!
