¿¿Amazon "Import Fees Deposit" rule change

Post by RuneTheChookcha » Fri Oct 23, 2020 1:05 am

Previously, any order under USD $30 shipped to Chile never required an import fee deposit, but now, regardless of the value, Amazon adds the import fee deposit to the invoice. Where (Chilean customs, Amazon servers), and when did this rule change? Any experience?

I wasn't charged the import deposit for my last two orders under $30. The latest was placed on September 11, so if they made a change to this, it was most likely very recent.

Probably because they cracked down on foreign companies selling in to the Chilean market, without paying tax.

I still use a box in Miami to handle the shipping of things like Amazon. Less hassle.

I just checked my past under $30 orders and I've been charged the fee every time since July 2019.

Didn't think much at the time, just glad I could get the items without extra hassle since I have not been able to travel to the States in a year and a half.
Que será, será.

When ordering above $30.00, after a month or two from the day the package clears the customs, Amazon refunds the difference between their "import deposit" and the actual fee (if the later is less than the Amazon deposit).

Did the Amazon refund any of your deposits for the orders below $30.00?

For the orders routed to a US box (Miami), or sent directly to a street address in Chile?

Yes they did, but I have to go back to check if the amounts match.
