So unsurprisingly a lot more young people voted and a lot less older people. Still only about half a million more overall than the second round of 2017 pres elections. The extra numbers were made up of about a million more young 20 to 29 year olds and about half a millions less elderly.
Suppose the elderly figured why bother going out with covid risk and they will be dead before they see any changes. The young are idealistic and run by emotions and want everything their way, because they are societies conscience 🙄, they got out and voted and influenced by social media to do so got them motivated.

The rest sort of shrugged and didn't really show up in any exceptional numbers, with a turnout on parr with their normal civic duties in any election. Not really an overwhelming success or mandate in my opinion. But a win nonetheless.

Ah well, I guess the oldies have had a good run and had their turn, lets see what the young dumb and full of themselves and their worldview can do. Watch now as everyone desperately tries to appeal to the young and "connect" with them.

Interesting the stat on old folk (read usually disciplined usually conservative) voters. As DonnyBrook related on the moving of her voting location further away than before, I already have read another account of this on social media also describing this. Whereas in my case it moved from 2K to next door and my wife at the plaza 1K away. If there was intention of discouraging the oldsters, then from my quick guess, it might have been for those 60 years or older (third edad for voting purposes).
Que será, será.

If Chile wants higher pensions, better education and health care, i.e. a larger government, then it means more taxes. The logical solution is a moderate increase to middle class taxes, and a high increase to upper class taxes.

One other possible magic short cut that might work is to do well out of the copper, lithium etc etc, and taking care to make sure that all these funds go to the state.

If neither of those works, then I don't see how things can change that much.
The OECD seems to agree with your assessment.
Revealed: how the wealth gap holds back economic growth
OECD report rejects trickle-down economics, noting ‘sizeable and statistically negative impact’ of income inequality

The thinktank said governments should consider rejigging tax systems to make sure wealthier individuals pay their fair share. It suggested higher top rates of income tax, scrapping tax breaks that tend to benefit higher earners and reassessing the role of all forms of taxes on property and wealth.

Angel Gurría, the OECD’s secretary general, said: “This compelling evidence proves that addressing high and growing inequality is critical to promote strong and sustained growth and needs to be at the centre of the policy debate. Countries that promote equal opportunity for all from an early age are those that will grow and prosper.”
