Happy 18th independence day!!!

Post by admin » Wed Sep 16, 2020 7:39 pm

I was going to post my traditional warning about the 18th independence holiday and trying to get anything done in Chile.
I am not even sure what that means this year. I guess you should still not expect to get anything done around the 18th week holiday, but probably for a whole lot of other reasons.

So, I will just go with wishing everyone a happy 18th Holiday.

We are going to stay home and do an asado with family. I have two friends coming over to join us that have been isolated for months.

I drove past the butcher the other day, massive lines. I was going to send my brother in law, as he is good friends with the owner anyway. Then we got a call from a client with a big campo near by, and he said they were going to butcher a cow. I just picked up like 40 pounds of the primest beef in Southern Chile. No need to stand in line.

We are going to shutdown Thursday. Probably back work monday, but going to have some catching-up to do. Not expecting much out of next week. so probably the monday after things will start working again.

Funny story.

So puerto montt and various other cities in the south are still under full quarantine.

My mother in law was talking to the nurses at dyalis. They were saying that at the check points the police and military are finding people hiding in the trunks of cars and the back of trucks trying to sneak out of the quarantine zones to get to 18th parties like it was East Berlin. They found an old couple crammed in a trunk of a car, and in another one there was a guy so fat it took four people to help him out of the trunk.

Seems they were all wearing their masks.

Here's another one. Caught by a sniffer dog.

Oh, for those that do not know, this day is otherwise know as "Happy Quiltro Day" due to the vast amounts of scraps from the asado all the dogs in chile have to deal with. My Quiltros just helped me clean-up some cuts of prime southern chile beef, and are ear to ear smiles.

Another funny story. I can never remember how to spell "Quiltro" (spanish pronouncation of a mapuche word). So I googled it. Just under the wiki page, allchile thread about Quiltros from 2010 showed up.

Yep, personally witnessed it here in Valpo. On my "home hill", cerro Barón. Was a bit shocked the first time I saw how this guy was coming out of the trunk.

I guess i should have put up a proper warning.

I have had about 10 calls today from outside the country. Thst is about double what I normally get on a regular day.

I did not answer a single one. Historically, 99.9% are bullshit scams and spam. Many because it is the 18th in chile.

Call me next week, if you are for real.
