let me put this another way.

imagine you are an international reporter right now. you got to fill your quota for your news organization.

with everything that is going on in the world right now, that is what you choose to focus on?

a protest movement, that is on total hold, in Chile, that is months old.

o.k., perhaps there is one or two in the world that are that desperate and unimaginative.

but, there are hundreds of such reporters? week after week, that simply believe this is the most important news at the moment? in the world? the region? in Chile?

please......

You can barely find a mention of the social crisis in the local news right now, but somehow all these B-roll international news organizations are fixated on that topic?

Do you really think, for example, that topic is really selling advertising to middle east readers, or anywhere else in the world?

I think people internationally will have seen the October news in Chile, and then everything goes quiet (from their perspective of reading international news from outside Chile) and they will appreciate a follow up piece of this sort from Al Jazeera otherwise they are clueless about what's going on.

Where is the evidence that Al Jazeera it is a "paid russian / iranian/ chinese troll site"?

Now they are based in Qatar and are funded by the Qatari government which is not exactly a model of democracy and freedom. So firstly we cannot expect any decent or fair coverage of Qatar itself. Secondly, they are Muslim and their opinion pieces about athiesm or any anti-Muslim issue show clear bias. But, apart from that, I find them to be fair. They do perhaps have a liberal leaning similar to CNN or BBC.

Now an interesting fact about Qatar is that they are a fairly small population and they discovered a huge amount of gas. What this means is that, if their exports are included, they are, on a per capita basis, statistically the world's no 1 sinner for climate change. So in theory no-one else should have more incentive than Al Jazeera to spew out fossil fuel propaganda. But I put "climate change site:https://www.ALJAZEERA IS BANNED/" into google and I get "climate action should be central to our response to the COVID-19 pandemic....We should demand that government funds are instead allocated to decentralised renewable energy production in order to start implementing the Green New Deal"
(Source:
https://www.ALJAZEERA IS BANNED/indepth/opini ... 58077.html)
and articles titled
"Climate change is the world's biggest risk"
and
"are we ignoring warmings on climate change".

These well argued articles clearly run counter to the short-term financial interests of the Qatari government, and therefore suggest to me a measure of editorial independece.

Now feel free to ask me to go to Russia Today and, on ANY given day, in 5 minutes, find 5 articles from that day alone and I will explain to you how they are actually propaganda pieces that serve the interests of Putin's government - you can't do that for Al Jazeera.

fake news sites funded to push a political agendas.
After following a bit of CNN, MSNBC, NYT and WaPo during the dem primaries in the US, I can say they fit this description too. What I've seen was as bad as Russian state media.

Not sure if there's any decent news source left. Maybe The Onion...
