Standing in the house in Valle Volcanes, felt at first a bit like a shock wave through the floor of the concrete foundation, a shift, then the waves that slowly diminished. Light fixtures on the ceiling were moving a bit. Started taking bets on magnitude.

Nothing like the 2010 quake - that was like being on a boat in big waves.

We just had a noisy one here. Not sure how big it was yet, but it had to be at least a 6 (or the epicenter is right under my house). I hope these weren't foreshocks. I was going to post this on EEUU's Valpo megaquake thread, but this one was newer.

They're calling it a 6.2 MI (preliminary), and it missed my house by 25 km.

Now they're saying it was a 5.4 Mww, but it was only about 12 km from my house.

The one in Coquimbo started out loud, with up and down shaking. Then it seemed to get more wavey. Usually it's one or the other, not both.

Been in Chile since mid-2015 and still have not felt a proper EQ. Im in the Caburgua area and honestly the only thing I have ever felt was a pressure wave that was just a fraction of second while visiting a friend that lived on the side of a volcano towards the Villarrica area. Nothing happened after the pressure wave...I was quite shaken thinking it was a foreshock of something major, but it was a whole lot of nothing.

But wow, if the Los Lagos EQ came from a volcano that hasn't erupted since 200BC...that is a little scary!

But Coquimbo?...Dont even pay attention to those anymore...Coquimbo is like the Alaska of Chile. EQ's all the time

Didn't feel a thang in my neck but I always notice there will be activity in our area in 24-36 hours if a significant event happens in the Caribe (Puerto Rico/DR/Haiti area).

Always be prepared, know where to run to if in the tsunami zone and just deal with it as this is indeed Chile.

And the EQ weather observation is interesting. Anecdotally, the monster ones seem occur on clear or hot days...

It was a foggy start and cool most of the morning, but when sun came out it was intense, haven't been that hot here since February probably. We get nice days, yes , but not that burning sun over winter , its early this year, but then 8 degrees and rain on Monday Tuesday so probably no temblors next week.

It's been pretty quiet here, until today. I think this one shook a few more tejas loose.
