santander bank phone scam

We just had a call to our office from someone claiming to be from santender bank that someone was trying to hack one of our accounts.

The error they made was calling the wrong person at the wrong phone line, about the wrong account, that set off a bunch of our internal security checks we have in place.

In the course of obviously investigating everything, there is an alert about a phone scam fishing for information.

You should never ever acknoledge on an inbound call from a bank that you even have an a account, let alone any other informatiin. Call back yourself, to your executive, and ideally you should recognize their voice when you call them.

I have had quite a lot of dodgy emails about payments to my account and some of them looked disturbingly genuine. One even somehow had the correct domain (and not where they put the domain in the name to trick you, it really was a correct domain).

Look out for emails at the moment and don't click on links.

funny story, from a friend that works at a bank and knows a lot about computers.

The recent hack of the credit cards list was circulating as a excel spreadsheet at the bank, as a link to an external web site, that said "click here".

He said, everyone clicked it.
