Rain
Where do you live and when was the last time it rained?
I'm not counting a few drops or a bit of very light drizzle, I mean proper rain i.e. that would actually get you wet and you would need to get an umbrella out if you had one, and it would last for more than 2 minutes.
Here in the south of the Region Metropolitana, it was at least 5 months ago.

Re: Rain
Frutillar, yesterday; but,i might have slept through a sprinkle last night and just did not notice.
Starting in on improving drainge in the yard and away from the house befor the real rainy season.
By the way, i dont really worry about proper rain all that much, even though we get a lot. We get morning fog / dew from the coast, even in the driest part of the year, that keeps everything green and alive. We had frost about two weeks ago early in the morning.
I was up the osorno volcano last week, and people were sking. Terrible early season wet snow, but snow. Think most of it melted off with 4 days of sun.

Re: Rain
I'm never quite convinced about whether the dew can sustain the grass because the grass may be wet but I'm not sure whetherot not it soaks through to the roots.
We have had a few days where it was forecast to rain, and didn't quite, and I think it might have rained in Santiago in December or January, but not here.

Rainfall year to date and comparisons to last year and a normal year, Santiago should of had around 12mm of rain by this date, so still not a hell of a lot. It's not unusual that Santiago gets virtually nothing from late Spring till late Autumn though, and of course Santiago is still in a mega drought whereby for the last decade it has received at least 20 percent less rain anually than the long term average (in some years it has actually been closer to a 50 percent deficit). Rainned on Monday here in Puerto Varas

Re: Rain
June 2017 in La Serena. That rain washed a years worth of accumulated Diesel soot away. However it also damaged a lot of badly-maintained adobe walls as well. Plus the usual flooding. So not particularly welcome....

Re: Rain
Light rain falling at the moment in Puerto Varas, I think we are suppossed to get about 10 mm out of ths today and another 25mm Sat night Sun morning. I read somewhere once that it rains for about 270 days of the year in Puerto Varas, (a rainny day is one with at least 1mm of rain) I would probably agree with that, but the rain isnt that heavy, its either light or steady most of the time and it changes so quickly, could be rain in the morning and sun in the afternoon and vice versa, except when you get one of those big systems that comes in and it rains for about a week, but they seem to be less and less these days. Even here too rainfall here has been declining over the last few decades as well. In fact the long term 30 year average was changed this year on the meteochile website from 1800 mm per year down to 1615mm per year.fraggle092 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 20, 2018 8:15 amThats right, last June. In total we had two or three rainy days last year. Pretty normal for the Norte Chico.
