I'm confused now is that 2 thousand 3 hundred milliones they are saying which is 2.3 billion otherwise why do they take it to three decimal places if they are calling it 2.3 million wouldn't they just say 2.3 milliones de dolares?
I think that your first assumption was correct. I don;t think it is 2.3 billion, but if it was, then there should not have been a point there. And of it was 2.3 million, then they should not have the extra zeros,

This is what the Real Academia says:
5. Usos incorrectos
But others have a different amount (US$ 2.800 millones.), and they are also quoting El Mercurio as a source:
En La Araucanía existen 42 grandes proyectos, con inversión tanto pública como privada, que implican recursos por US$ 2.800 millones.

So economic minister larain went to congress.

I like how he put in terms that the averge chilean can wrap their head around. The 5.5 billion u.s., 2.3 million pesos of debt for every chiliean. I know americans, that owe 168,000 u.s. each mas or menos will find that refreshing, but a minimum wage worker that might get their attention.

“Con la calidad en la Educación que tenemos hoy día, Chile nunca va a ser un país desarrollado”

I don't hold high hopes but still happy that Piñera shifted focus to the basic education. Chile has PISA scores lower than even the struggling ex-USSR countries. Making universities free wouldn't help it at all.

Bachelet already started the change:

Michelle Bachelet’s Underappreciated Legacy in Chile
March 9, 2018

She entered her second term with promises to reduce income disparity and reform the education system after a series of student-led protests pressured the government to take action. Although expectations were, in retrospect, probably impossible to meet, her efforts still yielded real results. As part of a fundamental reform of the country’s voucher-heavy education system, she banned for-profit institutions in primary and secondary schools. At the university level, her reforms did not live up to the promise of “free university for all,” but they did deliver it for the bottom 60 percent of households. True, there are many ongoing faults and criticisms. Universities, for example, are worried about declining educational quality and some experts argue that a major investment would have been better spent on early childhood education rather than university. Still, the progress in responding to the demands of the student protests is hard to ignore.

Not sure how exactly they were "banned" because my friends with kids are still paying for private primary and secondary schools. I'll ask if they have noticed any change.

Yeah they are mistaken, they did not ban private education, what they did do was ban the co pay model, whereby schools that recieved funding from the government could not also charge parents a fee, as they were able to in the past, sort of like a muni school but a bit better because they could get top up funding from parents. Those mix model funded school were made to change to be one, or the other, either exclusvely state funded or totally privately funded by way of school fees from parents.
In the Lakes Region Chile for 6 years. It looks like New Zealand in some ways, and is nearly at the bottom of the world too, but there the similarities end.

Pinera has been slamming Bacheletś administration at every opportunity, and not just your normal we are better than the opposition.

the big one today was Ponce is back in running SQM as a consultant. I could just hear all the commies heads exploding on the far left.

The Pinera administration, including new head of corfo, simply washed their hands of it all and took the position, guess that contract the last administration signed with SQM should have been more carefully drafted, we are just going to follow the letter of the contract and no more.

There is just a whole series of articles out there about it:

Ponce is a monumental piece of shit, but I knew bachelet and friends were not going to get him. He did not survive this long, by not being slippery.

catch that key line
El Imacec minero se expandió 4,6%, mientras que el no minero lo hizo en 6,2%.
That is an impressive, and almost scary rebound. that 6.2 is more like a chinese number.

Then also, I guess 4 years of the government actively trying to kill the economy every way that was in their power will do that.

Ohhh, this is getting juicy.

https://www.df.cl/noticias/empresas/min ... 45829.html

Not only did ponce punk the bachelet administration when in office, it looks like they are getting punked again by their own supporters after leaving office. The political feeding frenzy has the entire left turning on eachother in a rush to push the blaim off some where else.

All that and morons still dont understand that lithium is not a strategic resource. It is the knowledge and processing of lithium that is valuable.
