Clocks Change Reminder

Post by Britkid » Fri Aug 11, 2017 4:39 pm

At midnight on Saturday night, clocks will jump forward one hour to 1am. Changing from UTC-4 to UTC-3.

We will get more light in the evening, but it may be dark going to school/work in the morning, at least for a little while.

Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica: time will not change. It will stay the same.

Tuesday 15th of August will be a holiday for Asunción de la Virgen. Some people may also be on holiday on Monday to make up the long weekend.

Thanks. I have to update my phone's time manually, because it can't be trusted to be accurate with these time changes.

The new routine in Magallanes is a trap for young players...neither my macbook nor my iphone picked it up. It was only after a week in town - when arriving nice and early to catch a bus out of Pta Arenas and finding it pulling out of the depot - that I found out what was going on....

Chile really keeps summertime in the winter and double summertime in the summer... given that the populated part of the country lies in about 72* West you would expect them to keep time on 75*West ie UTC - 5h... rather than 60*W in winter and 45*W in summer

The last weekend of August or first weekend of September would be easier to remember. Thanks, Britkid, for your timely reminder.

Last time in Peru~Chile trip, had with me the Citizen Satellite Wave watch. What a wonderful time piece. Just push one button at your destination and in short time adjusted for correct time.

My computer and phone totally on the ball. Just looked at it was 11.59. Looked 2 minutes later and both at 1.01. Hm. probably should go to bed now.

Apple devices? We have iPhones and a MacBook Pro, and they all changed at that time as well.

All well and good in Valdivia.... but in Magallanes this winter all my apple devices went with Santiago time... not Punta Arenas time

Having been 'out of touch' from early April until early June the decision in the south to stay on summer time all year long slipped under my radar...

It will be interesting to see what happens next winter..

Not Apple devices, Samsung android. Actually I forgot to mention how my phone did get overexcited and also changed a day early first thing Saturday morning, so I had to override that, and then it changed again as I said above.
