Looks like a serious deal this census, pretty much everything shut down.

Will be curious to see just how off the last census disaster was.

Still, welcome to 2017. You do not need to shut-down a country and count one head at a time, to determine how many people there are in the country.

Give me an afternoon with the civil registry database, I will tell you how many dogs, cats, and rugrats there are in Chile. No, wait, I need two days. Figure at least a day to clean-up their database, like purging all the dead people from it. Probably helpful to have access to the SII tax database and something like the electric company, cell phone regulators databases for sanity checking.

Then all those extra questions they like to ask, like sexual orientation, religion, and so on we can probably just answer by sending a bot out to crawl facebook and other social media. Hell, probably even get some real answers. People tend to lie about that stuff when sitting with a human face to face (e.g. 80% of the country is not catholic). If you got really ambitious, you could just send the whole country a text message with the extra questions.

Figure 2-3 techies, a couple specialist in stats, one week, and no one ever needs to leave an office in Santiago. I could get the whole thing done, more accurately, for a million dollars. Being a government contract however, I would have to over charge for it. Call it 10 million and change. Don't want to screw-up a government budget by being too affordable and efficient.

I picked up La Cuarta yesterday and was reading more about the census. It says you have to answer the questions and can be fined if you don't. I am not sure whether they would fine someone for just not answering the door or going out all day.

It looks like people are strongly reccomended to stay at home for much of the day (or at least one person).

I think this has to be a golden opportunity for thieves to pretend to be doing a census, I wonder what the robbery rate will be like tomorrow.

I bet residential internet speeds will be low during the day with everyone trying to watch Netflix or whatever.

Our friend from PDI talked about it last week. They are aware of this kind of problems and everybody will be vigilant tomorrow.

Wasn't listening intently but the TV broadcast in the background said something about asking for the carnets of the encuestors and that their authorized function could be verified on a website or called in.

We are having an asado tomorrow with our neighbor. Nothing else to do.
It says you have to answer the questions and can be fined if you don't.
Where did you see that?

You can - there is a number to call and you can verify a RUT online also.

The streets should be pretty quiet. If anyone needs to shoot some scenes for their home made post-apocalyse zombie movie, tomorrow could work.

LA Cuarta from yesterday says they can fine you between 7587 CLP and 151740 according to Ley 17.374.

Ah yea there was some to do about a bunch of people trying to start a boycot of the census. Why? No idea, but the gov started dragging out that law to shut them up.

I kind of put it in the same box as that law about flying your flag on the 18th.

What people should take seriously is the fines for not giving emplyees the day off.
