Check the graphic at the bottom.
Considering they were only expecting 1.1% it's good.

yea, minister valdez during the press conference today tried putting lipstick on that pig, repeatedly. He was shifting his eyes back and forth, rolling them, playing with his paper; he, did not believe the bs he was sent to shovel to the media anymore than anyone else in the room.

His answer about the unemployment numbers was so unbelievable, it sounded like something from a white house press briefing. Some totally off topic explanation of why we should not be too concerned about the drop in housekeeper. Somehow they now magically have an education, and are doing home health care, or teaching Psychics at MIT, curing cancer, on their way to Mars; but, don't worry they are employed somewhere. It was so out of this world. He lost me and I believe most of the media, that started checking their notes to make sure they were in the right press conference.

On the plus side (depends on what side you are on I guess) , mining projects in Chile are expected to approach 65 billion over the next decade in Chile up 34 % in last year's estimates, probably due to improved confidence as companies can see the end of the light at the end of the tunnel after this train wreck of a government. Copper back up to 2.90 pound too I see. At least the looting by the outgoing socialists will not have as big an impact

And Hyatt is opening a new hotel in Las Condes next year. Feels like people are gearing up for a good run in the next few years. https://www.zacks.com/stock/news/271174 ... -and-chile

The poll covers the period from 2013 to now. So it's quite obviously not Trump.

I actually had an impression that the visa waiver gave a huge boost to the US perception in Chile while the subsequent review/revision was due to the mishandling of immigration by the Bachelet government.
Came across this Gallop poll from way back in 2013 that showed US being viewed as the greatest threat to world peace even then. 67,806 people polled in 65 countries. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-25496299

The most simple and direct summary yet of the bachelet administration.

https://www.df.cl/noticias/empresas/ban ... 94427.html
De acuerdo a Silva, el gobierno de Bachelet destruyó los equilibrios macroeconómicos, y hoy deja a "un país endeudado, polarizado, sin inversión ni crecimiento y con una baja en su clasificación de riesgo".

Nope.

Two obsevation from my day today.

First, i was on my way dowtown santiago to a meeting this morning (been spending way too much time in downtown santiago recently ).

In the taxi. Playing with my phone. I look up for a sec while stopped at a light to see where we are.

8:30, every corner of the intersection crosswalk is filled with people, heading every direction, everyone seems to have somewhere to go.

At that moment i realize every single person at that intersection is black. 100%. Not one single person is even sort of latin looking darker skin. All african origen.

I can not recall even seeing an intersection in a country with a large african population, that was 100% black, at any given moment (e.g. cuba, colombia, chicago).

Second, inspite of having seen lots of haitens in chile, today was the first day i ever got hit up by a haiten pan handler. At least he was much more polite than most if the chilean panhandlers, and did not setoff my automatic defense alarms as he aproached me. Claimed he just arrived in the country 8 days ago and had nothing, but his chilean spanish was waaaay tooooo good to be 8 days old.

I almost told him, go down the street and apply for a visa before they change the law. I was in hurry and simply apolized for not being able to help him out, and he politly said thanks anyway. Hope chilean panhandlers learn about marketing 101 from the haitiens. He will probably go on to found chile's largest fortune 500 company.

Hey but none of that investment/growth or things like that matters because they are going to close Punta Peuco, good to see they have their priorities straight.

40% decline in foreign investment to chile in 2016

Post by admin » Thu Aug 10, 2017 3:00 pm

40% decline in foreign investment to chile between 2015 and 2016. Lowest level since the financial crisis.

https://www.df.cl/noticias/internaciona ... 12823.html

2017, my guess, it was even worse.
