Shipping to Chile from USA

Post by Minnesnotians2010 » Sun Jul 27, 2014 12:46 pm

How do I get my clothes and stuff to Chile from the states? I need to ship a large box or crate to Santiago or farther south and need to know how I can do that and through the cheapest company. Does anyone have any advice for me? I need to ship all of my stuff including sports gear, Bike, Skis, climbing gear and some outdoor equipment. In total I bet in weighs over 150 LBS.

Thanks for the help!

Bring as much as you can and pay the fee for excess baggage and specialty items.

Flying in premium economy or business or elite status usually also gives you extra allowance.

Non expensive run of the mill stuff that won't attract too much customs attention, send via USPS Priority mail.

Thanks that is what I did on my trip here and now I am not going back for a while. My family was going to send something through USPS but it was like $500 so I am looking into alternatives.

Another question about US to Chile shipping (just not to start a new topic).
My friend from US want to send me a camera, that costs around 2000 us$. Only a camera, ~800gr, without box, battery, etc.
What is the best way to do this safest and not to pay extreme DHL taxes?

Don't be surprised if the recipients have to pay about US$400 in taxes, no matter how you send it.

Unless you or someone hand-carries it, if it arrives by a commercial carrier, then that is about the amount of tax that would be due.

Best way is to have a very trusted friend whos traveling between US and Chile bring it... :/ My parents decided to send me a pillow and it cost US$40 to ship, lol. I can't imagine shipping something that would get taxed.

I understand about the taxes.
Next question - is it safe to deliver something that cost more than 2000 us$ via ChileBox or Eshopex? Someone had such experience? Maybe with additional insurance?
Can their workers steal something from box?

If it is really important I would use DHL and not FedEx.

Have you had bad luck with FedEx? I was going to use them for something important, because I wasn't too sure about DHL:)

I use Qantas from NZ and pick up from the freight hangar at the airport myself. Massive poo fight but it works.
