Yes, lack of transparency is a huge part of the problem and can cover over all kinds of iniquities. On the other hand, the justice system can deal heavy handed punishments like what Purdue Pharmaceuticals is about to experience.
Too bad it is all in hindsight with countlesss lives ruined. I remember back in the early ‘80s when they started really pushing their flagship Oxycontin. It was pretty disgusting even before the grand addictions and crime rings began.

100's of billions of dollars (more like trillions) spent on the war on drugs over 40+ years, to send swat teams to bust people with a 5 dollar bag of pot in their own home, and some how the united states could still not afford a reasonably priced health care system. It was (is) still too expensive.

yet, the cops, prosecutors, politicians, law and order types that voted for it, statically all either themselves or someone in their family, had prescription for pharmaceutical grade heroin (or worse) in their medicine cabinets, that most did not need.

It all makes perfect sense.

I find this article on American medical costs ironic, published on a very right wing website:

https://www.zerohedge.com/health/why-so ... g-hospital

what I find amazing, is the example the author is outraged by, was $165,000 in medical bills. I have known people in the u.s. with millions of dollars in medical bills that have gone bankrupt.

but, somehow you are still a "socialist" or "communist", if you even suggest that there should be affordable healthcare in the United states.
