Our compliments on your patience in waiting in the fila larga while everyone in front of you went back for multiple missed items and then paid by cuenta corriente requiring approval by the manager! You must be tired and ready to get back to your car and go home to make your dinner with the food you are buying! === Caja cerrada

Maestro who shows up for today's work only two hours late === Trabajólico

I will be there a week from next Tuesday as long as my kid doesn't get sick or my truck gets stolen or if it's not raining === Me voy al tiro y nadie me puede detener.
A woodsman was once asked, “What would you do if you had just five minutes to chop down a tree?” He answered, “I would spend the first two and a half minutes sharpening my axe.” - Dubious source on the internet

The only one I don’t understand is Te cae bien a todos los demás huevones.

Shouldn’t that be Le caes bien a todos los demás huevones? I have to ask because there is a chance that at this point Spanish has changed so much in Chile that it is starting to sound somewhat incongruent now.

Maybe it is Te caen bien todos los demás huevones or Les caes bien a todos los demás huevones.

Now that I've been here a whole 6 months, living the Chilean life first hand, this is my favorite thread.

If I were an adult trying to learn Spanish and ran across this sentence, I would quit right away. I cannot even explain why, but it just sounds right.

Gringo tax === No hay cambio/vuelto

Sir, your padrón is out of date, as well as your permiso de circulación, your insurance, and your revisión técnica. You don't appear to have permission to be driving this vehicle, and given how long we have seen you living in this town, we think you should have a Chilean driver's license by now. Is that alcohol I smell on your breath? === No hablo castellano mucho bueno.

So… what does this all mean… that Chile is a place similar to Alice’s Wonderland… or what?
