Charge for gasfitter/plumber

Post by StrawberryHeartsForever » Wed Oct 22, 2014 10:52 am

What is the most you have been charged for plumbing works? My husbands apartment that he rents got flooded due to a leak in the plumbing under the sink. A piece had to be changed and he charged 60 lukas to change the plastic part which took no more than 30 minutes. According to him it was a difficult job?!

Anyhow, my specialist endrocrinologist charges 30 lukas per visit, so we felt completely ripped off. We already asked two others who quoted 150 luka and 120 luka to do the job, so this was best quote and the need was urgent since the woman who rents the place has two small babies and can´t be without water.

I know in the UK say, plumbers do make a good wage, and they are specially trained, but in Chile we are talking about maestro´s essentially right? Anyone care to share similar stories and how to go about this better in the future?

Way too much. I just got an old calefont serviced: completely cleaned out and 2 major pieces changed for 85,000. I could have had it for less if I had gone with Joe Plumber but I use the official Junkers service and parts with a 3 month guarantee. In your case, the owner should pay for the plumbing repair anyway. Usually you call the owner, explain the problem and let them choose the plumber. Edit: I reread and it appears your husband rents out the property not rents it?

i just paid a maestro 250 luka to almost completely re- wire and re- plumb an old shop in Curico. naturally we bought everything he needed including drillbits etc. he is the most proffessional tradie i have come across in Chile, by far. if anyone in the area needs hime for something let me know. happy to pass on his number.

As per usual nos cagó como un buen chileno. What would you say the hourly rate for a plummer would be? Like I said if it were our appartment we could have got more quotes, but the woman who rents it has two small children and not fair to have them without water for too long. Oh well. You live and you learn.

The only way to avoid this situation is....Do It Yourself.
Probably the couplings on the sifon were loose or something similar, but at most it would have cost $5.000 in parts to repair.
Maestros sometimes leave a half-assed job to get the repeat business after the fault comes back after a few months.
