I didn't think so but last time out I was advised to get a chicha shot. Depending on where/how you'll be living you may not want one but I needed it.

Bring lots of aspirin. The Sept 18th is coming up soon, and it is normally followed by a nation wide outbreak of hangovers. Signs to watch out for are the general impossibility to get anyone to do anything for about a week before and about two weeks after, then the slow recovery that takes the entire country two to three weeks to catchup on the three weeks they are behind in their work.

Seriously, there is nothing here you would need a vaccination for that you do not need in a first World country.

My doctor strongly recommended a hepatitis vaccination (Twinrex). But they have started to give to everyone here, weather you are traveling or not. And I think they also recommended Yellow fever for some parts of Chile, that I didn’t bother getting because I wasn’t going to going to those parts.

As a matter of fact I even for my last Twinrex Vaccination in Chile… I had to go to the clinic where they gave all the babies their shots. That room was damn colourful.

the WHO seems to think yellow fever is not needed.

In fact, here is the WHO report on Chile, Immunization, and disease cases:

Interesting read.

The big difference in Chile is that if there is a nation wide immunization needed, it is nearly full coverage. The national public health system is very robust.

A lot of Latin America countries because of the corruption you get massive holes in the immunization and health care for entire regions. The rich get immunized, but the rural poor get left out.

Foreigners coming in from other countries are more likely to be the biggest threat, because Chile does not require immunization of new imports.

Yea, I am talking about all you mangy Gringo's out there ( You know who you are ). Even a Gringo's dogs and cats are required to have their shots. Perhaps we should start a Gringo vaccination and free flee collar program.
