Maybe they tried to reach out to his family or to his lawyer and failed to find someone to get in touch with...?fraggle092 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2020 4:42 pmadmin wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2020 10:28 amreuters finally picked up.the story..

Re: John Cobin in the news
so seems cobin appealed his sentence. supreme court reduced the sentence to 6 years, changing the charge from like attempted murder down a manslaughter.
6 weeks or 6 years, probably amounts to the same thing in general population in Chile.
his apeals are exhausted.

Re: John Cobin in the news
Is the possibility of leveraging house arrest with ankle monitoring not possible now for any portion of his sentence?
Perhaps that is subject to review along the same lines as the concept of parole unless its specifically forbidden as is the case in the most heinous cases.
He has already been confined for almost 1.5 year. I'd think he should be able to have some kind of option once he gets to 2 or 3 years of time served on a 6 year sentence

Re: John Cobin in the news
That is why you see sentences that are 5 years + 1 day, in this case it is 6 years + 1 day to be exact. It is to exclude the possibility of house arrest.

Re: John Cobin in the news
Cobin fired a gun into a crowd. Did he actually harm anyone?
In 2019 a person in this valley (north Maule) shot at a neighbor five times resulting in four bullet holes, a lengthly hospital stay and permanent damage. The shooter is free and has yet to be sentenced. There was no malfeasance on the part of the man who was shot.

Yes, at least one person was hit in the leg. But it was all caught on video, and during a time of national unrest, and he's a foreigner.Rhodolite wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 10:00 pmCobin fired a gun into a crowd. Did he actually harm anyone?
