as bad as being stuck in Santiago might be for haitens, it is still not haiti

https://mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN22N1DT
"Haiti has registered just 182 cases to date and 15 deaths."

Emphasis on "registered". Haiti has been a ruin for a very long time, and no one can get me to believe in their numbers.
Think I seen some weeks ago that the hatian "government" simply announced they were not even going to try to control the virus for lack of resources. They failed badly with the cholera outbreak.

There is a document for a higher-up at Bachelor's government that went public this week that shows they were will aware of the mass immigration going on:

https://www.biobiochile.cl/noticias/nac ... iana.shtml

One main item that I always find odd at government statements is that they seem to find odd that people enter the country as tourists and then change their immigration status. I mean, that's how the system is designed to work. I'm a Brazilian citizen, there is a visa agreement between Chile and Brazil and the embassy in Brazil had no idea about it.

I guess things got so bureaucratic to the point of bureaucrats no longer even knowing what's going on.

There was suppose to be a vote this week in the senate on the immigration bill. not sure of the status of that.

yea, through this whole debate it has been shocking how little politicians know about how immigration works in Chile.

next article,

https://www.biobiochile.cl/noticias/nac ... ones.shtml

seems there is an amendment under consideration to allow foreigners in the country illegally or under irregular status 90 days to fix their situation.

It is interesting to read the change in tone of the comments under that article.

a few years ago, bio bio comment section was filled with pro-open immigration extreme left bla, bla, bla. not anymore.

the lefty kids in congress seem to be seeing what side of this their bred is buttered on too. they are conspicuously absent from the debate.

You can not claim to represent "el pueblo", when the Pueblo wants to lynch you for giving their jobs away to poor immigrants.

oh, I almost forgot about this article.

https://www.biobiochile.cl/noticias/nac ... rior.shtml

out of the blue, a Carta supposedly signed by groups representing thousands of Chileans living outside of chile was sent to congress against the new immigration law. really the list looked like a who's who of foreign communist and socialist parties.

it is just an absurd list of 'give us free shit' that has nothing to do with immigration to chile.

among other crazy ass shit, they claim the new immigration law will stop their 'right of return' for dictatorship exiles. which is just ridiculous crap only the left in chile would try to push.

Did you read the current laws morons including the constitution, before you signed that letter or did you get a communist party enema?

It's this kind of bullshit that sometimes makes me want to jump ship. Chileans surely love to complain to the point of procrastination.

so the vote is tomorrow.

seems the fight is coming down over the left's attempt to create a "labor tourism" visa. basically chile would be one of only countries that let's you ask for a work visa at the boarder, and absolutely nothing would be fixed vs. how it works right now.

https://www.df.cl/noticias/economia-y-p ... 13842.html

The other fight is over the left's push to provide another amenesty, that would be advertised well in advance. 90 days after the law is published anyone could request temporary residency that was inside the country. Which that would just be a cat call for all the human traffickers.

basically the left is pushing for complete open boarders.

There was even a possibility, if this comes out the other side of the vote a mess, Pineda might veto the law.

Where are all the pro-immigration whatever skills (cover for down to no/hardly any skills for the majority) fuck breaking the laws supporters? Does being right on this matter still make me a classist racist? I have family who have been impacted directly by all of this from the hard working and educated to the less ambitious who are all bonafide natives. Nice being in one's expat ivory tower on these matters.
