work visa WITHOUT contract

Post by Kate » Mon Dec 10, 2007 12:48 pm

Hi everyone,
Is it possible to get an ¨open¨work visa without a contract? I heard certified professionals can apply for a work visa by showing official credentials. I am currently here on a tourist visa...

Thanks for any info you may provide.

I take "Freelancer" to mean self-employed. Is that right?

That is bit more complicated than just the work visa, as you need to start a buisness, and apply for residency through normal channels (e.g. retirement/income visa, investor visa, etc.), and request your work visa as part of that overall process. Work visas general imply a contract with an employer to apply for one. Other things aside, the work visa is the easy part. It is the other paperwork. All the other types of visas however allow you apply for a work visa. Once you start the immigration paperwork, even without a response, you are good to go to be able to work until told otherwise (really we have never seen anyone denied one).

That said, it is completely doable and we have done it for many clients that are starting buisness ventures in Chile that would essential make them self-employed.

No problem, just trying to elevate any confusion created by who is offering what advice on the forum.
