I should record that and send it to anyone that thinks we charge too much for our immigration services.

15 minutes of that, and they will be sending us our fee plus a big tip just for having suffered through it.

That link goes to Emol, which isn't too mobile friendly. This one goes directly to the Senate's YouTube channel:

BTW, there's no need to record it, Charles, you can send the YouTube link directly to your clients.

One main item that I always find odd at government statements is that they seem to find odd that people enter the country as tourists and then change their immigration status. I mean, that's how the system is designed to work.
It may have worked, but only because the half-assed immigration law allowed it.
Don't think that it ever was official policy, it just was allowed to happen...

Senador Ossandon belatedly referring to the scandalous Haitian "tourism" industry today, one of the few times it has been raised in Congress: If the then-opposition had been doing their job, they would have seriously pressured Bachelet's government over that issue. Here he states the obvious: no serious country allows tourists to change their migratory status from within the country.

Here is a prime example.

https://www.df.cl/noticias/economia-y-p ... 74322.html

An anthropologist from the university that is conducting that survey on immigration said it is impossible to change work contracts when applying for citizenship.

Which is obviously FALSE!!!!

Either this idiot knows zero about how immigration law works in chile and has zero qualifications to be involved in such a study; or he has a extreme left political agenda he is pushing, and has zero qualifications to be involved in such a study.

FYI, Anthropology in Latin America is traditionally Marxist centric; not some type of science. every single one I have met was more worried about pushing Marx, than conducting science.

seems some of the left are dropping support for the push by senator allende and the commie kids to pull the teeth.

They know they are not going to be able to sell supporting bringing foreign labor without limit to chileans with the unemployment this high.

sounds like Pineta is serious about vetoing his own law if they allow for a work visa on arrival.

I haven't ever seen so many people supporting Piñera. I'm not sure if that clause will pass, but it has no chance in hell of being actually made into law.

Well the senate is still voting on the immigration law.

Seems the left is crapping all over the law anyway they can.

So they made some changes to some other parts of the law.

The attempt by the extreme left to force a "work tourism" visa was defeated today.

Looks like they finally might get the rest of the law through.

What was the idea behind the work tourism visa?
Sounded like they wanted it so illegals could show up in Chile and be rewarded with the right to work, the moderate left saw sense then? Any other "highlights" in the new law? Or are they just playing catch up from an immigration policy that was still stuck in the 1970s?
