Thanks for the tip! Looks like I can only schedule an appointment for this current week and this current week is all booked (no surprise). Am I missing something? Do I need to try again first thing Monday morning?

That I don't know. What you can do is go to an extranjeria in Los Andes or San Antonio - they seem to be open to serving people from Santiago and there are no line-ups there. Don't go to Vina, those guys apparently stopped accepting Santiago residents a couple of months ago.
