Housing bonus given up to USD $20.000 and also applying to foreigners as well? I can see there will be hordes of "poh chinos" arriving then taking advantage of these sweet deals and buying houses. I bet, Spencer Global will be very, very busy for years to come. Why not many Argentinos or Brasileiros immigrating to Chile?

Yep, and I have even quoted the links to the government page that has information about the housing bono and to their flyer directed to immigrants. And it's a current bono, not an outdated thing. They ran it on April and July.

I have no real guess why it is not known by more people, as the maximum of CLP $1.600.000 in terms of declared income should be well within the reach of most immigrants. Regarding Argentineans: I guess they are too proud to move out to Chile. Brazilians typically look to immigrate to the USA (due to cultural reasons) or to Portugal (for easy access to the EU, due to an equal rights agreement between Brazil and Portugal). I guess they simply don't consider Chile as an option, although the number of Brazilians visiting and moving to Chile has been increasing.

Well that did not take long.

Tvn is running videos of large groups of immigrants (haitiens, colombians, dominicans, etc) in central santiago cornering and attacking the carbinerios that are trying to stop the illegal street sellers. Illegally in the country, not paying taxes or have permits to sell, and then violently attacking the carbineros when confronted about it. The local retailers, where they sell in front of their stores, claim they are making more money than they are because they are not paying taxes, or have any of the regulatory requiements.

This has been happening for a while now, nothing new. Chile's getting what it deserves for not watching the borders and sleeping on the job!!

And right before the election too...but I'm sure they are better vendors than the lazy, rude chilenos so what's the big deal? Chile needs their cultural contribution.

And what culture are we talking about anyways? What contribution the illegals can offer when they are breaking the law to begin with in a foreign country? Is there anything to learn from it? God help us!

hey, my issue is the attacking the carbinerios in broad daylight on the street. Not one or two, but from the video it looks about 30-40 or more.

Have to hand it to the carbineros, there were two of them back in to the corner, and they did not draw their guns. If there was a life-threatening, justified time to fire, it does not get more obvious than being attacked at a ratio of 10-20 to 1, with no way to escape.

When they interviewed one of the street sellers, why he was there, guess what he said? There are no jobs.

All is well bachelet. Big thumbs-up. I am sure Guillier has an incredible communist plan to magically fix all that too.

You have now hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, that can not get legal even if they wanted, and there are no jobs for them if they did.

That said, I had the funny thought the other day, in 10 or 20 years, we are all going to have a good giggle when the left-wing parties get bit in the rear by all these immigrants. Watch all these immigrants, actually seize the opportunities in Chile that the poor Chileans won't, and in 10-20 years they start entering the middle class and beyond as they become successful. At which point, they all turn around and start voting center right.

Everyone is a socialist, until they get their first income tax bill.
