the president

No, the president was surrounded by locals on the news. They wanted to know why the government was not prepared for the disaster and why the people died when they had known since December of the potential for Earth Quakes. She pointed out that they had ordered the workers off the rafts and the local...

expat or local

Expat or local is all relative to how much a owner / real estate agent thinks he can get away with. Try to avoid the real estate agents, but if you have to they will be able to show you more places. You should pick at them a bit, because they can have absurd ideas about what it is you want or what t...

construction and workers

I got to tell this story. I was at a BBQ / asado with one of our construction consultants a couple of weeks ago. He is Chilean, and oversees and approves the money for municipal projects in the 10th region. I was trying to talk to him in a positive tone about the Chilean construction workers, the pr...

wood

Most of the stuff to do metal construction is available at Sodimac home centers in southern Chile. You can check their site for the prices more or less. Problem is workers that know what to do with it. Be prepared to give training courses.

watching the news

We are watching the news and will keep posting as we find out more bits and pieces about what happened today. Looks like their was a 6.0 that hit north of the central region near Papudo, and that was the one that was felt near Valpo, Vina, and Santiago. The news says they were unrelated ( we are on ...

aysen and puerto chacabuco

a 6.0 to 8.0 hit Aysen and Puerto Chacabuco this morning. There was a wave that hit the shore line up to 6 meters. Currently there is 3 dead, and 6 missing. Most were in boats or working the salmon rafts at the time. The military responded with a couple of dozen aircraft, and the president was down ...

good link

Don't worry, you got it right. Just needs to be on topic and of use to others on the forum. That would likely be one of the more useful links ever posted. the "cutandpastwebaddress" is designed to make links still work, but force people to edit the link in their browser. It makes spam links worthles...

Careful

I would be careful with that offer. You might not know how big a round you are buying. There is likely around 100 active users, and I am not sure how many people lurking around that have never posted (why I can not clean the spam from the registered user list). If all those automated spam bots that ...

punto de lobos

Punto de lobos is the famous one in the southern Central region of Chile. We also know of a hidden one much more south, but have been sworn to secrecy by a surfing client of ours. I might see if I can get him to stop by the forum and give it up (I doubt it though).

gaining

Beer is gaining. My wife is the wine snob in the family, I'm the beer snob. I have started acquiring an appreciation for wines however. I use to basically not care what was in my wine glass, and now my wife has to stop me from buying the more expensive wines. What changed my mind was the discovery o...
