Re: Obtaining a driving license with no education certificate

For me the education certificate was a pain in the ass. I eventually gave up and just took the local exam which was easier and less time consuming. I wrote about my experiences here in a somewhat long article: viewtopic.php?t=16651

Re: electric vehicles in chile

Thanks for sharing this. Good news. The real news here is that you can now drive from Santiago to Concepcion with an electric car, which wasn't possible before. The other noteworthy thing is that these are fast chargers. 30 minutes or so. There is one place on the drive with 98km between charging po...

Re: China Growth Has Stopped

That social score thing you mentioned for instance...when the admin was in China, I don't think it existed?

Re: China Growth Has Stopped

Keep in mind that the admin's stories about China are things that happened in the 1990s or 2010...whenever he was there. China is a really fast changing country. You go away for a few years and they've replaced a fishing village with a financial district. When I visited China, I went up the tallest ...

Re: China Growth Has Stopped

I heard a story once from a colleague at work that someone at another company complained about a taxi driver ripping him off and get a letter back from the Chinese saying they caught the taxi driver and executed him. I think that might have a been a windup or an exaggeration, surely even in China th...

Re: China Growth Has Stopped

I was thinking though. Chile is raw materials (phase 1 of commerce) China is production (phase 2) US is buying all the junk (phase 3) If that's how it works (obviously oversimplification but may be some truth in it), then by the time China is slowing down, you would think Chile would already be slow...

China Growth Has Stopped

I talk to Chinese companies and track their fiscals in the industry I work in. 2018 was clearly a year of less growth than previous years in one particularly industry I work in. Apple's 4th quarter surprise interim announcement confirms a similar trend, as did various other news in the last few days...

Re: Tenants disappeared during the night

One place I rented here in Chile the owner was not interested in any paperwork. She wanted to know where my parents-in-law lived, go to the house, and meet them and talk to them about me which we did in fact arrange.

Re: electric vehicles in chile

My prediction on page 4 that they would start charging people just to enter Venice has come true already. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-46721456 It looks like just a very small charge at the start, just for day trippers, and maybe just for cruise passengers. I suspect that they are testing t...

Re: Philanthropy Starting In Chile

It's a commendable attitude to want to help others. Good for you. One thing I would like to say is that Chile is not that poor a country and therefore the community and the government will already be able to take care of themselves to a large extent. So if you want to spend a few thousand dollars to...
