Re: Buying a car in Chile

It is certainly possible. The process is quite long in terms of the document and notarization and things you have to do as well as finding a car, looking around yards, selling a car, background research. You may end up spending around 10-30 hours of work to buy and then to sell. It is probably slowe...

Re: Chile Peso 2018, Starts at 605.50

UK pound did indeed very briefly hit 900 today for the first time since September 2016 - probably due to the Bloomberg Brexit report- before immediately falling back to around 890 again.

Re: Chile Peso 2018, Starts at 605.50

I just remembered that usually the Chilean peso goes up and down quite close to the copper price. I just googled copper price and it has indeed declined this week as well as in recent months. Well, that explains it probably. It's amazing how close the correlation always seems to be between the coppe...

Re: chile lowers airport fees

Thanks a lot for reading what I wrote and taking the trouble to respond.

Yes it's sometimes true that the pros and cons of these things have to be weighed up and some flights will do more good than bad.

Re: Chile Peso 2018, Starts at 605.50

Pound has hit 890 today for first time since 2016, could reach 900.
Dollar also may hit 700 for first time since 2016.
Euro has already hit 800 for first time since 2016.

Peso seems to be weakening lately (I don't know why).

Re: chile lowers airport fees

My wife and i fly a lot. Like once a week or more, typicaly santiago / puerto montt. If you fly to Santiago once a week from Puerto Montt....I just did a quick back of the envelope calculation, the carbon footprint of that is around 11.5 tonnes CO2e. 50 return flights to Santiago by the way is abou...

Re: chile lowers airport fees

Chile needs more taxation in order to provide good health, education, police etc for everyone, not less. Reducing airport taxes is also a pro-business, pro-rich people move since it's basically a tax cut for the rich and businesses in disguise. Still, really small deal at the end of the day. Since o...

Re: Lucrative foreign assignments

Metropolitan Police Detective Inspector Tim Court, who is heading the nationwide response, said: “We put the message out to immigration and border force. “The big question was ‘where is this stuff going?’ We intercepted a series of boxes going back to Chile. Hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of ...

Re: Transferring money

I just had a quick look and the check box to save your credit/debit card details (assuming you use that method of payment) is automatically checked. It looks like, that to avoid storing your bank details in their system, you would have to remember to uncheck that box for every single transaction you...

Re: Transferring money

It looks like you were right, it seems I was giving outdated info. Sorry about that. What I said was possibly accurate as little as a week ago or less - I seemed to recall the transaction I sent then and having to reduce it slightly to get it to go through - and without doubt what I said was accurat...

Re: Transferring money

It is a UK address, so what I did is have it sent to my parents, and then to be forwarded on. I even explained to Transferwise that I didn't really live in the UK, and they accepted it - verbally. (This is different to a regular UK bank account, where it is allowed, or at least tolerated, to maintai...
