Renewing cedula in new town

Hi, kids - I did a search on the foro but could not really find an answer other than Donnybrook's story. Can someone with permanencia definitiva who had their cedula issued at one registro civil just go to PDI and RC in another location (say half a country away in a more temperate climate) to renew ...

Re: New Member Here

While I might agree that sometimes we can be a smidge rough, I think admin's sentiment rings entirely true. If you can't handle a little abuse on a forum where you can completely ignore someone that you have never even met, probably never will meet, and isn't even in your presence, Chile is going to...

Re: New Member Here

Yea, everyone could be a little gentler with the new members, but on the other hand if someone is bothered by what anyone might say on this forum, they got a rude awaking coming in a move to Chile. Haha, I have so many stories that are [now] hilarious that start with a Chilena screaming at me. I fi...

Yes, I have to also figure out how to be a type 1 diabetic in Chile. I'll figure it out. :)
Diabetes is rampant in Chile. Your doctor in Chile will be thrilled to finally have a compliant patient.

cheers,

On that note, hogares are also great places to donate TIME and also learn the language while helping people. I have found volunteering at hogares to be incredibly rewarding, and a wonderful way to learn more about local and Chilean culture.

Re: Selling Second Hand in Barrio Alto

For donations, consider a local school that claims to teach English to their students. They might want them for their library. Also, for donations, local hogares often take donated items to then sell over time to generate money for the hogar. You can stop by or call one of your nearby hogares to see...

Re: Zero Waste in Chile

I've done the Villarrica ascent. It is pretty significant, so you do want to be pretty fit to go up. Really fit, actually. I would not at all recommend trying to do it without a guide. There is plenty of danger to be found going it alone. After the eruption, it is also likely that things have change...

Re: Extend student visa/stay longer, help!

Do nothing and after the 2nd, go through the process of paying your fine in Santiasco or more preferably at an Extranjería and PDI in another province ? I will pipe in and recommend against this option. Having done that once before in the old days, they still have to send it to Santiago for approva...

Re: home inspection

For a home in the South, here are a few things that aren't really fixable that would be problematic for me, especially if there are more than one: The heating system - don't fool yourself into thinking this is an easy fix. Neither wood nor gas/kerosene are cheap, pellet systems have their issues als...

Re: Cremation in Chile - Legal Requirements

Muchas grassyass, Gloria. Very helpful, as always. I suppose if all fails, Mr. Pl could hike me up the volcano and pitch me over the side. I am not surprised it is common or at least becoming more so. When I look at the graves here, it always seems to me they are way too short. I often wonder how th...

Re: how long outside of Chile without losing residencia

Pretty sure it is best to say it like this: You cannot be out of the country more than 364 days in a row. You have to be back by 2/7/18. Look out for leap years! If you do not return until 12/31/18, you will be cagado. Also, beware if you are taking a red eye flight. It matters when you arrive in C...
