Re: Returning to Chile after Prorroga

I suppose PDI already has your address? One is supposed to let them know of any change of address. That's how Viña knew I was resident in Santiago. Lost carnets are different. Those you can get at your local RC. Passports are different. Long story short, just went through the whole process a few mon...

Re: Returning to Chile after Prorroga

I'm confused, only this specific set of RC offices rule applies to all foreigners renewing their carnet, cause I just did it last year here in San Antonio? Presumably that is your local office? Province of San Antonio. If you live in one of the comunas of Santiago, I am in Las Condes, there is no c...

Re: Returning to Chile after Prorroga

There are only some places outside Santiago but within easy distance which will/can do it. Los Andes decided they wouldn't after doing a few. Viña and Valpo do it but lines are very long in Valpo (not sure if they have a reservation system). A friend was in Temuco on business and did it there! So yo...

Re: Returning to Chile after Prorroga

Thanks for the response guys! I'm wondering, you said "tramite at the Policia Internacional (certificado de vigencia)" --- is that a tramite I need to do as soon as I get back into the country? I spoke to the consulate and they said all I had to do was land in the country and renew my carnet as soo...

Re: Bachelet floated as World Bank head?

The President of the World Bank has traditionally been a US citizen. That was the agreement when it was set up. No idea if that is a legal requirement or a simpler agreement. The President stepping down is Korean-American. As things stand, Bachelet doesn't qualify by nationality let alone anything e...

Re: Tenants disappeared during the night

What if you make the tenant name a guarantor on the contract? Can you go after that person if the tenant does a runner? It might make them think twice about running if they have named a family member. First they would have to find a family member willing to guarantee them! I doubt that would be easy.

Re: The official thread re the future Valpo megaquake

IME, dogs and cats are useless for earthquake prediction in Chile. This from someone who has experienced a mega, an 8, many many 7s, many more 6s, countless 5s and lost count feelable 4s-3s. Interesting. I noticed that when I came here from Peru because there they were good at alerting you. Here th...
