Thank you for this. Not fun discovering my name on that list.
Did you receive any notification from your bank?
Nope, nada. I'll go talk to them tomorrow.
A lot of people I know were advised by their bank. As everyone should have been.

Re: Newbie

Just be aware that AirB&B in Chile (or anywhere else) does not have the same safeguards as in the US. If you find a property, post a link here for advice. Best to find somewhere within walking distance of a metro station on line 1. Best walking to the historic center of Santiago: (Barrio is a neighb...

Re: Can a Resident Start a Religious Foundation in Chile?

I wonder if they are winning the Jehovah's Witnesses vs Mormon battle for souls. I haven't had a JW ring the bell in quite a while. Not complaining.

Re: Chilean private schools compared to good US public schools

I am not sure what a jock culture is. The three schools have very complete sports activities but I am not sure if that is what you want to avoid. You might consider Santiago College to your list. The problem will be finding places in any of them. Two of us on here educated our children at the Grange...

Re: chaos in PDI

I did it in Viña del Mar. You can do the Registro Civil renewal process there too but have to say what municipality you wan them to send it to to pick up. I chose to do that stage in Santiago with an appointment. I made the appointment before I went to PDI as their certificate lasts 30 days and the ...

Re: New Guy From Florida

I don't know the possibilities in the south but imagine the construction "window" might be short because of the weather. There are foreigners here (speaking of Santiago because it is what I know) who have a good business in construction but they are mostly not building from scratch. They are repairi...

Re: USD bank account

You can have a dollar account in Itau as well. The exchange can sometimes be less favourable than going to an exchange place but if you factor in safety - not walking around with wads of cash in any currency - then it isn't much of a difference really. They usually ask you for the source of the doll...

Re: Traveling South America using only cedula de identidad?

Usually passport trumps ID document if you need a visa. When Argentina had the reciprocity fee for US citizens some were hopeful they could enter Argentina on their Chilean ID but it was not allowed.

Re: chile's migration crisis

There is some rather stange hostility to jews in the south. My wife and i were having dinner one night with this couple we had just met. Out of the blue the husband just goes off on this nasty anti-semtic rant. Probably one of the worse i have ever heard in person. His wife turns to him (her family...

Re: Santiago Vehicle Restrictions 2018

I had not noticed the fact that it only applies within the Vespucio ring. I don't exactly how much of Santiago that covers, but almost all of the eastern municipalities (Las Condes, Vitacura, La Reina and lo Barnechea) are thus not affected - same goes for some of the biggest muni's like la Florida...
