Re: buttermilk in santiago?

I´ve never seen buttermilk in Santiago, but maybe you could use natural yoghurt as a substitute? There are yoghurt bacteria called "pajaritos" which you can add to milk (UHT one works perfectly) and you get a really sour, liquid drink yoghurt which tastes similar (and seems more appealing than milk ...

Re: "Gastos comunes" -- What is usually included?

I think that kind of depends on the building, in my case it´s water, gardening and other nebulous administrative chores. Other buildings offer doormen service or other security measures which then are typically included in the gastos comunes. Power and gas are normally paid apart.

Re: Liquorice in Santiago?

Yes, I also saw licorice at Jumbo in Ñuñoa.. By the way, it´s always funny to offer licorice (for example the slightly salty one) to Chileans and watch their reaction. I saw some people spitting it out because they found it so disgusting:)

Re: only 5 days in Chile

There are some natural parks you can easily get by bus to. Very pretty is for example Aguas del San Ramón, where you can do an easy trekking and get to a nice waterfall (altogether 6 hours hiking, but even if you don´t make it to the waterfall, you can observe a beautiful landscape and some interest...

Re: Any hiking groups in Santiago?

I've been here two weeks and am looking for group hikes in the mountains around Santiago. If you know of any club or loosely put-together groups, please let me know. I'm in good shape for moderate hikes, but not yet into intensive hiking/trekking/rock climbing activities. You could go to the mounta...

Oh, that reminds me of something I always wanted to know. Do you ever get a right to vote as a foreign citizen with residencia definitiva, if you chose to not become a Chilean citizen?

Re: Newbie boy from Santiago

Talking about concerts... does anyone of you happen to go the Kings of Convenience concert in December? I bought my ticket already, but most of my Chilean friends don´t know this band, so I fear I´ll otherwise would have to go alone (which I hate). So anyone interested just write me a PM!

Re: Why do rich Chileans love Miami?

Isn't that a contradiction in terms?
Looking at the large number of gringas falling in love with chilenos and moving here (myself included:-), I guess not.
