Re: Divorce
Sounds like the ex-wife is very much still his wife. Spencer Global should be able to handle the case.

Re: Canadian citizen stabbed to death in Valpo
I saw on the news last night that the mother of one of the guys said that there's no way that her baby could have possibly committed that crime.

Re: Citizenship, new requirement for time in country
I'm tacking this on here, but it might very well belong on another thread. My spouse and I are looking at coming to Chile for a few years - 2-3... but (unless we fall in love with where we land, which is never out of the question) we are thinking we'll head back to the US after my pension kicks in....

Re: The Pinera administration 2.0
Very interesting chart. The x and y axis are probably easily accessible statistics, but where do the daily average hours worked come from? Time actually spent in Congress chambers? Office? Drag racing on ruta 68? More information here . Screenshot-2019-6-6 Intro ¿Cuántas horas trabaja un diputado p...

Re: The Pinera administration 2.0
For Chilean parliamentarians, its only a part-time job as well. Even so, latecoming and absenteeism are quite common. grafico_diputados-1024x852.png Very interesting chart. Re: Housing market situation
Another consideration is the 35% tax you pay on the difference between your purchase price versus your selling price for a non-resident. So a long 6 months+ vacation in Chile might be in order, to re-establish residency before selling... Hadn’t considered that, but my wife (Chilean) and I are co-ow...

Re: Housing market situation
I think you're missing the roughly 50K USD in rental income over the 7 years. Rental income is almost entirely eaten up by the mortgage interest, insurance, and contribuciones. I'd call income a wash, really. Anything we've earned is really just appreciation. The insurance policy is a bit expensive...

Re: Housing market situation
That said, gaming the exchange market is a fool's errand. If you have no plans to ever live in Chile again, you might as well sell it and reinvest it. There's no reason to keep such a large investment if you don't have plans to come back. And even then, you can always buy another place. I belong to...

Re: Housing market situation
There were a few posts on this thread a few weeks ago that were really intriguing regarding the existence of bubble and appreciation/depreciation. Admin posted an interesting comment regarding age: you also need to look at how older buildings and apartments depreciate in chile. they depreciate more ...

Re: Argentina Economy, Election, and possible default?
I think he was referring to the IMF loan. Doubt that ver much of that $56b went into the hands of Argie travelors buying TVs in Chile.
