Re: USD/CLP: Please Say a Prayer for Better Rates

Although I don´t like it, I think we´ve just got to learn to accept that for anyone who doesn´t earn their income in Pesos, Chile is an extremely expensive country to live in these days. I used to think Europe was expensive but at todays rates, it´s a give away. I´m not a believer , so can´t help by...

Re: Car accident - legal implications for driver

From what I´ve read during my years in Chile, regardless of what he´s actually charged with, the penalty will be insignificant. Perhaps he´ll lose his licence for 6 months ( but will no doubt continue driving anyway). Maybe he´ll get a suspended sentence if it´s the first time he´s killed someone, b...

Re: Electronic funds transfer problem/theft?

To the best of my knowledge, you can´t remit Pesos to Chile. If you say your bank sent the money in Pesos, I would question it, but let´s say they did ( or tried), the intermediary bank would convert them back into US$ in order for them to be able to make the remittance, which is why you ended up re...

Re: How to issue an invoice from Chile to the US for my fees

OK, what you should do is make out a normal boleta for services ( assuming you have such things already). Make it out to the company concerned, with their address etc , but obviously without a RUT. In the description part. put something like "consulting fees refxxxx or whatever", ( the work carried ...

Re: Tourista buying a car in Chile

I suggest your last idea is the best - rent in each country; it may well be it will even work out cheaper, and it will certainly cause you less hassle. As for the thought of driving from Chile to Ecuador????

Re: Los 33---the film---see the trailer here.

I haven´t seen the trailer and am not the least bit interested in seeing the film either. Personally I´m sick of hearing about the " heroes", as to me they don´t fall into that category; they just did their best like most people would, to survive; that doesn´t make anyone a hero accorrding to what I...

Re: The warmest people in Chile are Expats

BDAhunter- Like the others that have replied to your comments, I think you have the completely wrong impression about Chileans. I also did my stint in BDA and would say that the Bermudians are probably the most stand off , unfriendly people I´ve met in my years as being an expat. They detest the ide...

Well the strikes are al over with now, so you shouldn´t have any problem. Personally I wouldn´t rely on any travel rep here and suggest you make your own bookings via the internet

Re: Moving to Chile and need advice!!! plz help!

I taught English with Berlitz for 3 years, up to 2008 and they weren´t bothered about teaching certs or anything; all they wanted was that the person be a native speaker. I don´t know if it´s the same now, but you can check them out when you get here. As others have said on various posts on this web...

Re: Hotels in Viña

As usual it´s all a matter of tastes/budgets. Personally I like the Sheraton, but not because it´s a Sheraton, in fact it was a lot nicer when it was the Miramar, but the location is great as you are right on the sea; it has a great terrace, pool etc and a short walk away is the Cap du Cal restauran...

Gift tax in Chile

HI, I´m new to this forum and am not sure whether any of you can help on a tax question I have so far not been able to get a definite answer to. I understand from various conversations I´ve had with people who know a little about the subject that in Chile, the giver is responsible for paying over to...
