Re: Santiago to San Pedro de Atacama

Does anyone have thoughts on doing the Santiago - San Pedro de Atacama road trip by rental car? Wifey wants to take me to the north (never been) and I'm quite keen on driving up. A chance to see parts of the country I haven't seen before, plus there are relatives in Copiapo. Would a road trip be wo...

Re: Isapres: why SO sexist?

A theory based on no practical experience whatsoever... Your situation will cost more than the reverse due to it being you (female) who is paying the cuotas. As is "accepted", women are more expensive and pay more, likely (I guess) due to the "risk" of pregnancy in your age group and associated cost...

Re: From Valparaiso to Seattle

Yeah I did read it. I thought it was nice. Did YOU read what I wrote? Did you understand the point I was trying to make? Sometimes we fall in love with something/someone and no amount of rationalising will dissuade you from doing what your heart says you should do. That shouldn't be too hard to unde...

Re: From Valparaiso to Seattle

Aren't you a miserable bunch?! Ask any dog owner how much it's cost them to transport their dog from one continent to another. Bet the answer is at least that much. Ask them for how long they considered leaving their dog behind. For many people, their dog is a part of the family and they wouldn't dr...

Re: Arica

If you are going to cross the border and visit Tacna for medical care, why not just live in Tacna? It didn't look significantly more horrible than Arica to me. Food is far better there, not to mention cheaper. The only reason for preferring Arica would seem to be the proximity to the ocean (IMO), if...

Re: Company Car Lease

Leasing a car, as I know it in Australia and as I understand it from the US, does not really exist in Chile. What passes for leasing in Chile will cost you both arms, a leg and most of your blood. When I presented the costings to my employer for leasing a car in Chile for me for 3 years, they did no...

Re: Warning about staying in Santa Cruz / Colchagua Valley

They were a bit surprised that you had to pay for the wine tours, considering those are usually free in the US, but I think that they were so impressed at the prices for wine down here, that they just didn't care, lol. These days (last month), there was only 1 winery (out of 15 or so) in Napa and S...

Re: Places to see in addition to the usual well known ones

Yep, what Groschi said. And Coñaripe. And las Termas Geometricas while you are in the area. And any of the back-country out to the border while you're there. And maybe Capitan Pastene, just for something different. And don't miss anywhere around Lago Llanquihue If you're in the north, don't miss Par...
