More than the peso being strong, it is the dollar going down. Check comparison with EURO for example.

Re: Bilingual private schools in Santiago?

Many valid points. As Admin, I would say that it really varies whether you expect your kid to work in Chile at some point. If so, then I am not sure I would agree with Britkid as saving money on education most likely would severely impact your kids possibilities (due to networking and the fact that ...

You can already see the relative stats, an update will only increase the total numbers:
Yes, I was thinking of total visas granted. Went up from like 2K a few years back and to 27K in 2016. Wonder what the 2017 number will be.

Very interesting - thanks!
lets see if they update it yearly - especially the part about immigration should be interesting for 2017.

Re: New Member - Moving to Santiago in April 2018

Few points. Even though I don't think the air quality is as bad as others might say, I still would not run 8 miles in winter anywhere near the centre nor in Maipu. Perhaps in Cerro San Cristobal, but I don't think there is a lot of apartments in the vicinity. Nuñoa is decent middle class for most pa...

Yep. It is a new regulation. After about a month your phone will be blocked.

Re: New Member - Moving to Santiago in April 2018

As others, I would not recommend living in Las Condes and working in Maipu. Furthermore, I would certainly not recommend living in a 1 bedroom apartment in Maipu. I doubt you would be able to find any that would be acceptable. Consider moving a bit out as suggested by Admin - along Ruta 68 for examp...

Re: Latam customer service ordeal

I have only used LATAM miles on LATAM flights. As EEUU says then you cannot do a 1:1 comparison to USD value. My estimate is pretty close to 1 USD for 100 km though.

Re: Zero Waste in Chile

I did it in summer 2004. We were allowed to ski down after the summit. That was also quite dangerous - several skiers were not very experienced and visibility was very low. I don't think the allow that anymore? And climbing the volcano with skis on the back was pretty exhausting...

Re: Latam customer service ordeal

As far as I know, tax is depending on airport. I have used several airline programs and the tax is never included when buying with miles. Always paid in cash

Aren't they already U.S. prices?
Does Aduana now charge tax on shipping charges also?
You pay US price + shipping + tax + customs clearance.
I assume that shipping, tax and customs will be cheaper if / when Amazon operate fully in Chile

Re: International shipping unreliable

I would assume substantially lower total price. Bulk shipment and customs clearance should be a lot cheaper than individual ones. I guess import tax should be lower as well as you will be paying tax on Amazon purchase price instead of on final price.
