Re: Explosion at Chilean Embassy in Italy

Apparently, it is no longer enough to be polite, not make anyone mad, and keep your head down.

It's hard to imagine what Chile might have done to provoke international terrorists.

Be honest, Stoph. They notified you. It isn't the booking agent's responsibility to double check with you every day to remind you to check your email. It's not their fault that you didn't. I've bought tickets and done hotel reservations through the big on-line booking sites and not had any problems....

Re: Looking for rugged companion for Region X transierra bushwac

You might want to give your qualifications. The last thing I would ever consider would be to take off into the wilderness with someone who didn't have extremely strong wilderness skills because inexperience is a good way to get yourself dead when you get out of reach of civilization. Not that I'd go...

Re: Chileans fight crime American style

Seabee, you are insulting the lower classes of the world. There are plenty of honest and hard working poor all over the world. Yes, even in huge cities there are plenty of honest lower economic individuals. Theft and crime are due to weak morals, not economic status. I see no difference between sayi...

Re: Chile - country of innovation

[[[.....exactly how I feel about people in North America who complain about China and their path to industrialization....]]]] Since China's air pollution is quite literally blowing across the Pacific and infecting the air in Oregon, I think that gives us Oregonians at least a partial right to compla...

Re: Chile - country of innovation

I'm not so sure about the lack of innovative minds. It takes some real innovative thinking to repair an ox cart wheel with a piece of baling twine and a flattened out tin can. So Chilean brains can do it. Are there any countries on that top innovation list that aren't wealthy countries? All that res...

Re: converting power tools from 110 to 220v ?

That sliding arm feature is very useful, and if you use the saw very much, you will find you use it often. My saw is a DeWalt and I can't see any problems in the accuracy. The saw has made some very accurate cuts in laminated vinyl flooring for a floor with a complicated shape where bad cuts would r...

Re: Dog Daycare + Boarding

Just my opinion, Sara, but there would be a lot more danger to your dogs in a boarding situation where all the dogs were let loose together. In a doggy daycare, the dogs are regular customers and the managers of the doggy daycare know the dogs well and many of the dogs are there on a regular schedul...

Re: Cannondale MT800 tandem...

I have no idea what the bike is worth, except that good quality bikes are really expensive. I get the impression that this tandem did not originate in Walmart. It's obviously well made since it has held up to many miles of use. However, since one of the nicer functions of this forum is to warn newbi...

Re: Au, my preciousssss...

Sure, you could get a lot of protection by weighing, measuring, and testing the density of every coin that you purchase. But how many people do that? Buy gold by walking into the meeting with sophisticated scales and a method to accurately measure volume? Buy from a reputable and bonded source. Gold...

Re: Au, my preciousssss...

PS: I would consider a pre-Colombian gold artifact to be an extremely valuable investment. Fairly easy to transport and it should always have much greater value than its weight. The people at the very top of the food chain are the buyers for those artifacts, and I suspect that those people are going...

Re: Au, my preciousssss...

Actually, very easy to make a fake coin. Given its market value is around $1400, then it would be worth an hour or so and a couple hundred dollars in equipment. If anyone wants to go into counterfeiting, all you need is one genuine gold coin, some silicon to make a lost wax mold, some very inexpensi...
