Re: Transfer and keep USD in Chilean banks in 2016

There could be some truth in that, but nevertheless it could be worth a try for SpaceCat. Technically Scotiabank Chile is not the same as Scotiabank Canada - they behave as distinct entities.

Re: Transfer and keep USD in Chilean banks in 2016

Not sure if this will help you, but we have had a US dollar account in Chile ( Scotiabank ) for years. Admin. has suggested in the past that our banking experience in Chile was unusually easy but from the first moment we walked in the door of the HQ in Santiago they have been courteous and helpful. ...

Re: Things to Bring

Thanks, Rhodolite! I have been able to get many of my fave spices and herbs in bulk at Washington - but had not seen ground coriander. Is it new? Is it always available? I was happy to find ground turmeric there but it was often not available!!!

Re: Things to Bring

One spice that I bring in is ground coriander as I am a curry fiend and thus use lots of the stuff - haven't been able to find it in anything but the tiny supermarket spice bottle size and it is probably somewhat stale by the time it gets to Chile. I usually bring in a variety of specialty food item...

Re: So long, Chile.

Ah, the eternal struggle with internet in Chile. We know it well. On the meta-scale of things, we ( personally, that is) have come a long way since we bought out here in the sticks in 2007. We have gone from no communication services whatsoever, land lines or cellular, to actually having two Entel t...

whoa! New front page is too complicated!

Please Admin, tell us it ain't so! This can't be the new format for the front page ... please? My apologies if someone has already addressed this issue under another subject heading, But I couldn't see it in the long, undifferentiated list of topics there !!! Actually, I liked the format that we had...

Re: another strike of DGAC at SCL airport Dec 17-18, 2015

The only article that I was able to find online said that the strike would last for 48 hours ( Thurs and Fri). Please post any new info that might help those of us meeting incoming passengers this weekend. I will continue to try to check with the airline ( and post any results) but others may have m...

Re: Frequencies for a mobile hotspot

P.S. Obviously the original topic - the mobile hotspot - is dead in the water, my mistake, and will be packed away for use on out-of-Chile trips. We caved and bought the new 3G router from Entel, mere moments before the new antenna ceased to work! Ironic !!! But thanks to evryone who tried to help u...

Re: Frequencies for a mobile hotspot

For at least two years we received our internet via a BAM thumbdrive thingy attached to an old repurposed Direct TV satelite dish on a pole and using a 3 metre cable to connect to our laptop. Worked very well - we went from zero internet access to reasonably good and reliable access. The downside wa...

Re: Frequencies for a mobile hotspot

Well, this thread certainly has covered a fair bit of techie ground, but I think I am a bit more knowledgable than I was a week ago. And I know not to buy com.eqipment for use in Chile without doing at least a bit of homework. Entel is and will remain the only game in town for us - so let's hope tha...
