Re: whoa! New front page is too complicated!

Thanks for the explanation and now that I (we all) understand the issue, we will have infinite (!!!) patience knowing that you are on the job! Seriously tho', your efforts in putting together this forum have provided me and I am sure, so many others with invaluable info and insights into life in Chi...

whoa! New front page is too complicated!

Please Admin, tell us it ain't so! This can't be the new format for the front page ... please? My apologies if someone has already addressed this issue under another subject heading, But I couldn't see it in the long, undifferentiated list of topics there !!! Actually, I liked the format that we had...

Re: another strike of DGAC at SCL airport Dec 17-18, 2015

The only article that I was able to find online said that the strike would last for 48 hours ( Thurs and Fri). Please post any new info that might help those of us meeting incoming passengers this weekend. I will continue to try to check with the airline ( and post any results) but others may have m...

Re: Frequencies for a mobile hotspot

P.S. Obviously the original topic - the mobile hotspot - is dead in the water, my mistake, and will be packed away for use on out-of-Chile trips. We caved and bought the new 3G router from Entel, mere moments before the new antenna ceased to work! Ironic !!! But thanks to evryone who tried to help u...

Re: Frequencies for a mobile hotspot

For at least two years we received our internet via a BAM thumbdrive thingy attached to an old repurposed Direct TV satelite dish on a pole and using a 3 metre cable to connect to our laptop. Worked very well - we went from zero internet access to reasonably good and reliable access. The downside wa...

Re: Frequencies for a mobile hotspot

Well, this thread certainly has covered a fair bit of techie ground, but I think I am a bit more knowledgable than I was a week ago. And I know not to buy com.eqipment for use in Chile without doing at least a bit of homework. Entel is and will remain the only game in town for us - so let's hope tha...

Re: Thanksgiving

Last summer, we found a packet of sage seeds somewhere ... in Jumbo or Easy perhaps??? And the resulting plantitas have become a giant bush over the winter. So it seems to be a fairly resilient plant and clearly grows well even in our pretty chilly microclimate by the river. Nice to have the fresh l...

Re: Frequencies for a mobile hotspot

Frank, you are right ... we have a sh***y signal! I have just discovered that the antenna that I can see (and was only built and put into service within the past month) is "down". According to local gossip, Entel intends to repair it by January ... amazing service, wouldn't you agee?! So what we are...

I think I can safely speak for Gloria and myself at this moment, Mr Hybrid! Be still my beating heart ... Speak not of such things lest we should lust hereafter!

Re: Frequencies for a mobile hotspot

Calling home is not my problem in Chile, Gloria ... its always been about Intenet access! But at least we actually have it now, unlike a few years back. Now our only issue is quantity, quality and at what price! Aaah, luxury problems ....

Re: Frequencies for a mobile hotspot

And from this info, if I understood it correctly, the conversion charts suggest that the local antenna gives us 1900 mhz and 2100 mhz.
