Re: Health clinic for an ultrasound scan in Santiago?

Interestingly it was an Alianz policy that covered my situation in SEA ... a very long time ago ! But as for pre-existing conditions ... you may be lucky enough to find an insurance company that will cover you ....but it is usually at quite a large cost relative to the normal price.

Re: Health clinic for an ultrasound scan in Santiago?

Unfortunately no travel health insurance I have ever heard of, covers pre-existing conditions - which in my case it was. But I absolutely agree with you, Hybrid, to travel without travel/medical insurance is a dangerous gamble these days. A $10 policy I bought in Korea many years ago paid for a medi...

Re: Health clinic for an ultrasound scan in Santiago?

Perhaps I was very lucky, but in my case I simply walked in to the clinic and got an appointment straightaway. This was fully private - no insurance company or Fonasa involved. I cannot remember being asked for my passport number but I am fairly sure they checked my RUT. As I remember I had to pay u...

Re: Health clinic for an ultrasound scan in Santiago?

I had a very good experience using Clinica Santa Maria in La Dehesa - Don't be put off by the fact it is located over a shopping mall- a very upmarket one, but nevertheless a mall. I was lucky enough to get a walk-in appointment with a Dr Buckel, who speaks English, and then went on to have a fairly...

Re: Chile Forum Anniversary- 10 years!!!!

Congrats, Admin! I, for one, am grateful for all your efforts and for all the support and advice received from the forum members over the years. Our life in Chile could have been a lot more challenging if we had had to re-invent the wheel each time a new desafio happened. So for the sake of future n...

Re: Transfer and keep USD in Chilean banks in 2016

There could be some truth in that, but nevertheless it could be worth a try for SpaceCat. Technically Scotiabank Chile is not the same as Scotiabank Canada - they behave as distinct entities.

Re: Transfer and keep USD in Chilean banks in 2016

Not sure if this will help you, but we have had a US dollar account in Chile ( Scotiabank ) for years. Admin. has suggested in the past that our banking experience in Chile was unusually easy but from the first moment we walked in the door of the HQ in Santiago they have been courteous and helpful. ...

Re: Things to Bring

Thanks, Rhodolite! I have been able to get many of my fave spices and herbs in bulk at Washington - but had not seen ground coriander. Is it new? Is it always available? I was happy to find ground turmeric there but it was often not available!!!

Re: Things to Bring

One spice that I bring in is ground coriander as I am a curry fiend and thus use lots of the stuff - haven't been able to find it in anything but the tiny supermarket spice bottle size and it is probably somewhat stale by the time it gets to Chile. I usually bring in a variety of specialty food item...

Re: So long, Chile.

Ah, the eternal struggle with internet in Chile. We know it well. On the meta-scale of things, we ( personally, that is) have come a long way since we bought out here in the sticks in 2007. We have gone from no communication services whatsoever, land lines or cellular, to actually having two Entel t...
