Re: Late 2016 - LATAM Chile booking question (from outside Chile)

So now I am about to give up on my trip to Colombia! I have been trying for the last few hours to PAY for the selected flights online via the LAN websites in both Chile and in Canada with absolutely no luck at all. After in-putting all requested info re- dates, flights, personal info and credit card...

Re: descaler for espresso machine

I have just used vinegar to successfully restore my inexpensive little espresso machine back to working order!!! Had to repeat the process twice, but it worked and there is no lingering vinegar smell.

Air travel from SCL to Colombia in Feb/March 2017

I have been checking out flights from SCL to Bogota and then on to Cartagena. We are planning a short family reunion in Cartagena and then some further travel within Columbia ( Cali, Medellin, Bogota, Villa de Leyva, Barichara, for example ) before returning to SCL about a month later. So far my res...

Re: Paying customs duties at airport

We just came through SCL a week ago with 7 kilos of roasted coffee beans in sealed retail packaging, as we do every year. Always declare them on the form. No problems so far. I suspect the key is that the beans are roasted - same issue with nuts, they must be roasted - incinerates any possible bicho...

Re: Help Me Find Things Please (The Lack of Amazon)

Can only help you with the water filter. 'Easy' in our local town carried them last time I was there. Brand name " Brita", they also sell the replacement filters. Tho it might be cost-effective to bring a few filters back with you when you return from the UK. I thought they seemed kinda expensive in...

Re: Health clinic for an ultrasound scan in Santiago?

Interestingly it was an Alianz policy that covered my situation in SEA ... a very long time ago ! But as for pre-existing conditions ... you may be lucky enough to find an insurance company that will cover you ....but it is usually at quite a large cost relative to the normal price.

Re: Health clinic for an ultrasound scan in Santiago?

Unfortunately no travel health insurance I have ever heard of, covers pre-existing conditions - which in my case it was. But I absolutely agree with you, Hybrid, to travel without travel/medical insurance is a dangerous gamble these days. A $10 policy I bought in Korea many years ago paid for a medi...

Re: Health clinic for an ultrasound scan in Santiago?

Perhaps I was very lucky, but in my case I simply walked in to the clinic and got an appointment straightaway. This was fully private - no insurance company or Fonasa involved. I cannot remember being asked for my passport number but I am fairly sure they checked my RUT. As I remember I had to pay u...
