Re: Suggestions for restaurants in Talca, please!

Hi Ingrambr and T-Robo, Thank you both for all this great info - I had no idea about some of those other restaurants in our area - must try them. FYI, there is also an excellent restaurant on Avda Espana called La Casa en la Esquina (more or less opposite to the Vet.'s surgery) looks like a private ...

Suggestions for restaurants in Talca, please!

The only restaurants that we knew of in Talca disappeared in the earthquake last year. Does anyone have a suggestion for a nice lunch spot in or very close to Talca (perhaps by the river) ? Our next visit is tomorrow so swift replies would be appreciated. In exchange, I am happy to be able to tell a...

Re: Scaptia Lata (Coliguacho / Tabano Negro / Horse Fly)

We can send you a few thousand of them if you like! From mid-December until a specific day in mid-Jan, we are constantly under assault by these tabanos here on the banks of the Rio Lontue. They are accompanied towards the end of that period by a much smarter (and hungrier) smaller, greenish brown ve...

Re: Art supplies in Chile?

I also have been through the "great hunt" for art supplies here in Chile and can suggest that you might try either Sodimac or Easy for the boards ... they carry ready-cut pieces of masonite/particle board of different sizes and thicknesses. I use these as a support for much of my painting. But they ...

Thanks, Zeronz, If what you say t...

Re: Wireless internet dongles / cards in Chile - cell networks

A new cell phone tower has been built (Entel) 7 kms from our house , line of sight, and is expected to go in to service in 2 weeks. We anticipate that for the first time we will have cell phone and Internet coverage inside our house - (no red fija here) So my question is : Has anyone invested in a u...

Re: Mailing personal items to Chile via USPS/Canada Post/Fedex

3 years ago we bought a house near Curico and had a good look at the local stores to see what was available in the way of furnishings. Between Ridley, Paris, Falabella, Jumbo, Easy and Sodimac ( I am fairly sure they all exist in Anto as they are nationwide chains) we were able to get almost everyth...

Re: where can I get a bank account?

If you are in or near Santiago, try the Scotiabank opposite the Lider grocery store on El Rodeo in La Dehesa. It is a bilingual (English and Spanish) branch and any of the account ejecutivos should be able to bring you up to speed on what they can offer you. We do not have a Chilean income and yet h...

Re: Books

Abe Books is offering free worldwide shipping on books sent by participating booksellers. One of these; The Book Depository in Guernsey, still has Chile on it's list for free shipping. Great news for book worms in Chile who have not yet gone digital!

Re: Moving to Santiago from BC/Alberta - Aug 2010

The most important thing you need to bring with you (apart from a sense of humour and a willingness to break new ground) is all your personal papers - no kidding, someone somewhere in an office in Chile is going to ask you if you have proof that you graduated from kindergarten! Well, a slight exagge...
