Re: Staying In Chile

That pizza joint, Mesita Grande, on the corner in Pto. Natales makes a mean pizza too.

Re: TRAVEL ALERT -New rebellion in the patagonia: Aysén

Apparently there have also been public protests in Santiago (notably a couple days ago) in solidarity with the Aysén groups in the south. These protests are a bunch of dissatisfied citizens protesting for different reasons but at the same time. The various beefs, acting simultaneously, are all tied ...

Re: The Nana Problem

Yeah, we've got a nana afuera too. For the other stuff, I do the gardening and pool maintenance with my own hands, because I want it done right. "Right" in this case means not massacring the plant life beyond all recognition and not superchlorinating the pool in an attempt to hide one's lack of simp...

Isn't it all kind of like the "bond company stooge" in the movie The Life Aquatic?

Re: can you purchase a creme brulee torch in Santiago?

You can also try a cooking shop in Pueblo del Ingles in Vitacura near the traffic circle on Avda. Vitacura and Avda. Manquehue. I've seen some near La Vega market in cooking and hardware stores, but can't remember where exactly.

Re: La Polar

Wow, this is big swindle for sure. PwC, how careless (?) could they be with the big chunk of missing dough? Now people are thinking, how much further could this bleed, into what other accounting clients. Can Chilean companies really afford to be this much like US companies...well, so much for consul...

Re: Jam session - playing out in Santiago

JackSantiago, looks like the music thread has been rekindled. Welcome to Santiago! I never did check out Gatobar, but I have stopped by Phone Box Pub (around Manuel Montt and Providencia) and they've got an open mic. Fairly eclectic crowd with a nice dusty stage and PA's teetering where they may. I ...

Re: Personal Defense training

Based on living in a bunch of cities around the world, best defense is to blend in (avoid encounters), don't stop and talk to wackos on the street (the first one is a nice distraction for the ones that work with him), and don't fall into the false sense of security that a half-hearted "self defense"...

Re: Chile, country of innovators?

The country has to undergo some pretty significant systematic (financial, legal) changes in order for true foreign investment (something a little better than plain old resource extraction schemes) to be worth bigger innovation bucks. It's true, Chile is open and relatively corruption free, yet a lot...

Re: Evil comes to Chile: Monsanto uses Aysen to slip in a tr

Ah, the USDA, our last hope, indeed a jubilant stalwart of reason and the long view. Anyone who wants to study a sanitized, fluff piece of an EIA, might want to check those Monsanto EIA's out. But, hey, it's just a pilot project. Ain't no harm in that, right? We're just trying to pilot study the bes...

Re: Evil comes to Chile: Monsanto uses Aysen to slip in a tr

With the way I've seen some business deals go down here in the past two years or so, it's no surprise about this backroom stuff. When I searched the net, I found some other random forum where one of the Chilean members wrote "The problem here is that they passed the law under all the news and riots ...
