Re: Do I need to go to a clinic for a UTI?

Honestly, some of the smaller mom and pop <SPAM WORD> shops will often sell you antibiotics without a script. Just had to get some a while back, it was no problem. Just talk to the pharmacist and explain the problem. You may have to try a couple before you find one that will do it, hard to say. It w...

Re: Crappy milk = crappy ice cream

My friend, I feel your pain. I used to live in Italy and we go to Argentina frequently and absolutely love the gelato there. I have yet to find any decent ice cream in Santiago and the ones that label themselves gelato are just sad. However, in a totally random and happy turn of events, there is a n...

Re: Best option to order items from US?

Yeah, except that it's ridiculously marked up. I don't mind the small markup they have on the notebooks, that's reasonable. But they've doubled the price of the pen itself. At that point, I would rather order from the US and if I get charged customs fee, well so be it, but I'd rather hedge my bets. ...

Re: Best option to order items from US?

Hmmm, my problem is I need to order an electronic item. It's not big (livescribe pen) and the notebooks that go with it. They do deliver internationally, but I do worry about something going conveniently missing... I also need it no later than September 20th, as it's to take to a conference with me.

Best option to order items from US?

Hey guys, did a quick search but got nothing... am wondering what the easiest, safest option is for ordering stuff online from the States? I usually have my mom bring me stuff but she hasn't come for a visit in months and I need something by next month. Specifically off of Amazon. Anyone have good/b...

Re: Italy vs Chile

Italy & Chile are NOTHING alike. Correcto. You have to go to Argentina. The Argentino travels to Italy, looks at the names in the phone book, and says, madre mía , look at all the Argentinos in this country ! BAHAHAHAHAHAHA so true. HIlarious. They do love their Italian Heritage. They also know wha...

Re: What will you do when you dislike cooking?

Not sure where you're located in Santiago, but I too am a huge Thai food fan and even though it is not Thai food, the food offered at Vietnam Discovery is out of this world. We're talking border-line crack, it's that good. AND, this one's for you, they deliver. Not sure how far/to what areas of Sant...

Re: Greetings all!

First world prices for a large drop in quality of living, my friend. Not to discourage you, travel is the greatest thing you can do to expand your horizons (literally). Just don't bank on Chile being the place of your dreams. The country itself is absolutely gorgeous; the culture sucks. You never kn...

Re: Wood Burning Stoves and Firewood

FWIW, we're on the coast near Valpo. Here they sell by weight, 90 pesos/kilo of dry Eucaliptus. Last year it was 80. It's actually quite dry, although we do our best to keep a certain amount inside to keep it that way. The fellow who sells to us is fairly consistent although I do always go and order...

Re: Tourist Visa Issue

Yup well aware of all that which is why we've never bothered following up on it (well and really we just don't care) and also why I inserted the caveat that I could not verify the accuracy of said information, only that it had been given by a government official. Most officials I've dealt with here ...

Re: Tourist Visa Issue

FWIW, my boyfriend and I have been here since fall of 2009. I'm Chilean Canadian and he's only Canadian, so we do a border run every 3 to 6 months. We always cross via Mendoza and were considering the Arica-Tacna run this time around to explore a bit more but I'm thinking maybe not then. Since the e...

Re: Best Cable TV in English

Hi, we have DirecTV. By far and away the best service we've gotten from a company in Chile. We have the silver package which gives us something silly like 70+ channels I think. If not more. Anyhow, of those channels I would say about 30 or so (probably more, I didn't hit the sports and nature channe...
