Re: production crews

Sorry, can't help - out of date. Something like the fellow who once repaired typewriters, except in this case, all my tv programs were produced on 3/4 and 1 inch tape, and I directed heavy cameras that rolled on wheels, with cables like spaghetti sprouting from each one. Splicing actually meant havi...

Re: Where do you live in Chile and Where would you PREFER to live?

1 & 2 are the same, south of Puerto Montt, but on the peninsula close to the coastal highway. As admn has pointed out several times, PM is the last city where major services are available. If you are out in a frontier area and an accident happens, it is a long way back to get help. For us education ...

Re: Property Values?

Thanks for the analysis and insight admn. Agreed on getting to know the area, knowing local families, and learning the community before making any decisions. We're coming up on 10 years here and know most folks, have served on the junta de vecinos, helped out w/ projects, school, etc. To add to the ...

Re: Travelling in an RV in the South

If I may be so bold I'd like to offer my experience and perhap encourage you to consider an application process before you accept visitors. We've been receiving WWOOFers for years, and while they don't travel in RV's, they are travelers and we've seen a lot - perhaps not everything, but quite a rang...

Re: does anyone refrigerate eggs in Chile?

My understanding is that once cooled in the fridge they have to stay there/under cool temps. If they have never been inside a fridge then they have a longer ambient shelf life. Seems to me I read about Chile vs. US on this issue and here they don't artificially cool them right away vs. the US where ...

Re: Land survey

FWIW - We've done this several times as we've added the neighbor's properties to our own. 2-dimensional, but it is still an old school process (imho & exp). Rodrigo C., a Constructor Civil authorized to do official measurements in PM and surrounding areas, shows up at our place with his dr's kit, a ...

Re: calbuco volcano blows southern chile

Thanks for the early am updates and many photos. We're in Pto Montt in Valle Volcanes, so it looked like it was literally in the back yard yesterday. It's a quiet morning, not a lot of ash on the ground. FWIW we lived in WA State when MtStHelens blew - that was a dark day/week/and the ash coated eve...

Re: Bringing in lots of stuff from the airport

FWIW/FYI, in terms of shipping, donated items, clearing customs, and goodwill: In August of 2014 and later I helped One World Play Project: http://www.oneworldplayproject.com/ connect with MINEDUC, its PR dept., and OWPP had Special Olympics ready to donate shipping on 25,000 balls (donated by GM at...

Re: Original Factory Brochures for American Cars

Interesting conversation! I had this 1969 Acadian Beaumont (like the Chevelle) - assembled in Chile - until last year. Fun experiment in driving a large car with lots of power but it drove like a truck. Fine in a straight line but forget about the curves, let alone finding a parking space downtown. ...

Re: If the internet stopped, what would you want a copy of?

Oh sure, no argument! Economy of scale and ability to archive whole collections electronically given time and resources makes perfect sense. We've done the same on a small scale w/ ebooks - like the two I mentioned - stored on XP laptops + have a core physical library. Most are practical - a fairly ...
