Gloria, do you think with a kitchen-sized flour mill and wheat berries, it would be possible to improve on the flour in the grocery store? I mean like for bread - - and pizza crusts, a different story of course!

I've seen only one variety of squash (calabaza) in the supermarkets and fruterias, and it is just so-so. How about acorn squash, butternut squash, buttercup squash, spaghetti squash, and best of all red kuri squash? Do seed vendors have much selection beyond what you see in the grocery store?

I remember visiting Tompkins' offices in Pto Montt maybe 12-15 years ago. At that time, they had a good size vegetable garden, being ecologically managed. Could be a source of contacts if they're still around.

I'm guessing they are pretty easy to heat. A wood or pellet burning stove should work fine. Need a stack out the roof, though. Propane would probably be good too, just need to go out a side wall for intake/exhaust.
