Re: calbuco volcano blows southern chile

No but here's a tip to get a bargain. Contact an astronomy club, they always have members upgrading their stuff or getting out of it and selling way under new prices. if you want to get carried away with all the toys, the good gear comes with accessories, camera and computer adapters, programmes to ...

Re: Shipping Container from Chile to US

All things are relative Marti. Doing the sums on distance travelled it worked out cheaper than a move within Australia. What's most important, without going into specifics, is that everything arrived intact, some of it irreplaceable regardless of its insured value. So, without an excellent result th...

Re: Shipping Container from Chile to US

Correct, it stayed on the flatbed. I hadn't bothered to add that while the truck was being driven down 2 Wards blokes travelled down by bus and were collected by the driver in Villarrica. They drove out to our place, got changed into spotless white overalls and gloves then very carefully unloaded in...

Re: Shipping Container from Chile to US

No sweat,... Yes if it'd bought the container I've no doubt it would've arrived on a Wards sidelifter. With the benefit of hindsight I might have saved myself a few bucks if I'd used Wards Australia for the entire process, but I'd used Wridgeways twice before in moves from Perth - Cairns - Melbourne...

Re: Shipping Container from Chile to US

By "we" I assume you mean you Marti :) Ok, the Port was San Antonio. No idea who the port services company was, Wridgeways/Wards handled that so one has to assume it was whoever Wards always use. One also has to assume they used a bloody container crane to lift it off the ship onto terra firma, as t...

Re: Shipping Container from Chile to US

Another kissed on the pecker by a fairy... Last year we brought a 20ft shipping container of our stuff from Australia. We used Wridgeways in Australia.Their agents in Chile are Wards, an American company with offices in Chile. It went off without a hitch, door to door with zero breakages, no apparen...

Re: Eco Houses Possible to build in Chile?

Well yes my wife was covering my arse, translating what I wanted to happen and what we expected to happen. She's a straight shooter but does it with humour and as soon as they figured I didn't mind getting my hands dirty in the process it became a sort of bi-cultural team project. Send the film crew...

Re: Eco Houses Possible to build in Chile?

Having read all the strife people have gotten into over the years, I must have been kissed on the #ick by a fairy since arriving in Chile because our builder and all of the other trades were honest to a tee. Having built/extended and renovated 3 properties elsewhere, Chile was my first experience of...
