Re: Opening A Bank Account

So, I'm looking around: Banco Falabella (not CMR) and Santader have some type of no-requirements "cuenta vista" options. Santander's "Cuenta Life" is opened "completely online". They tried to verify my identity with the infamous piece of shit called Equifax, asking which car I owned and in which com...

Re: Passive House (Passivhaus) construction

It may be worth a read at least, to see if it's relevant to you. Sorry, they are from RM, it would be too expensive to get them here. You can search "passivhaus chile" and there will be enough certified companies in most southern regions. But yes, I'm in hopes that somebody can share a recommendati...

Re: Opening A Bank Account

After declaring and paying taxes for a year as self-employed (honoraio), we downloaded yearly tax declarations (F22), invoices (boletas) for the last 6 months, and tried our luck with a family "cuente corriente" in Scotia. It ended just as in Banco de Chile 2 years ago: "we'll call you in 3-5 days"...

Re: Chile Forum is 13 YEARS OLD!!!

This forum paved our way to Chile. I've started reading it long before moving and nothing else comes close: most sites and articles about the country give no info beyond the very basics and Facebook groups are made of whining and misinformation.

Long live the forum, thanks admin & mods!

Re: Passive House (Passivhaus) construction

especially, when you consider the silly wasteful framing methods they use in chile (cross supports every half meter inside the walls). it adds nothing to strength (wood shrinks), and let's energy "ghost" through the 2x4s. in other words, thermal breaks between the structure and internal surfaces ar...

Re: Passive House (Passivhaus) construction

Thanks a lot, that will take some time for me to process. I have no experience in construction and still have to read a ton of theory but a couple of friends can hold my hand (one of them is an actual construction manager), so I hope there are no major failures ahead.

Re: Chile Wealth, Inequality, and International rankings

For hating communists so much, his government somehow tried managing the economy manually for the first years (of course, it was unsuccessful). The reforms he implemented with the help of the famous Chicago Boys sent Chile into a crisis in 1982 : It was the worst economic crisis in Chile since the 1...

Passive House (Passivhaus) construction

I'm slowly preparing for the house construction, ended up being fascinated by the Passive House concept: you insulate everything to the max and make the house airtight, so no heating needed even during the Central European winters, let alone Southern Chilean ones. The heat comes from appliances, bod...

Re: Paying taxes for work done internationally

I think you are a bot or a lazy spammer. But you don't need an accountant to work as an individual: issue your boletas in the end of each month according to my instructions above, submit the form F29 ("Impuestos Mensuales" in Mi SII), pay 10% retention (the same section) and you are done.

A map of countries that have free-trade agreements with US, China or both. Chile is in a rather exclusive club:

Re: Chile Wealth, Inequality, and International rankings

A nice chart of inequality in relation to GDP per capita. One more confirmation that Pinochet's period set the country back:

Re: Argentina Economy, Election, and possible default?

Macri could have done a whole lot more cleaning out, particularly at AFIP which has its tentacles wrapped around the private sector and could give the vampire squids at Goldmann Sachs master classes in bloodsucking, but the numbers are not extraordinary. Heeey, don't offend vampire squids! 😀 They a...
