Re: Best phone and internet companies?

For Mobile, then go for Virgin Mobile or Simple (https://www.simplemoviles.cl/). Post paid is not an option until you have a cuenta corriente in the bank. You can also just pick up a Claro prepaid in any minimarket. Check if the phone company supports your phone before deciding http://willmyphonewo...

Re: Best phone and internet companies?

Some buildings are limited to just one company and there's nothing you can do about that. For me personally Movistar has been better than vtr in Santiago. In the fifth region vtr was my only option and it's been OK in terms of reliability and speed. In terms of customer service both suck bricks side...

Re: Rentista visa, taxes & looking for housing

Banco de Chile had no problem opening a fondos mutuos account to an American friend, and the question of his US tax compliance never came up during the process.

Re: The Trump Administration

N. Korea is only an instrument the US is trying to use to blackmail the Chinese. True. But the Chinese have also used North Korea as a "bargaining chip" and a tool for for "blackmailing" the west, especially the US. True. The generals in China/US and everywhere else need some justification for incr...

Re: The Trump Administration

Question: Why would the Chinese move troops to the border? Many people probably assume it is to aid the North Koreans against any invasion by South Korea, the US, etc. It is possible it might also be for + occupying North Korea for their own purposes, or + solely to prevent mass emigration of North...

Re: The Trump Administration

The Syrians were testing him to see what he would do....now they know. I think it is too early to make that call. The last time the Syrian government supposedly did a chemical attack, it was ultimately proven as a false flag, despite many attempts to blame it on the Syrian government. http://web.ar...

Re: The Trump Administration

The Syria missile strike also helps Comrade Xi sell US concessions to his inner circle. A win-win any way you look at it :)

Re: Rentista visa, taxes & looking for housing

You don't need a bank account to open a fondos mutuos account. You can do that with just your tourist RUT, passport and some document showing how you came into possession of the money. It just takes a week or so to set up, that's all. Otherwise, yep, ATMs.

Re: The Trump Administration

The more details emerge about the missile strike, the more it looks like a 'contractual match' between US and Russia. The Pentagon is quite open about the fact they warned the Russians of the attack in advance. If the Kremlin wanted to stop it, they had enough leverage to do so. Well, now Trump will...

Re: Rentista visa, taxes & looking for housing

On a separate note does anyone know what the best way to send money to Chile is? I've done the maths and had a look at my bank's ATM fees and it seems like even with the fees and everything added in (my bank charges about 5USD + extra 1% on the visa exchange rate) it still works out better than mon...

Re: Getting a Medical Plan

I'm still trying to understand what's the deal with dentists on ISAPRE. I assumed previously that dental works are not covered but it seems that it depends on some codes. It's also not clear if we can do reembolsas for dentists out of the insurance approved list. It probably depends on the plan. I'...
