Re: chile's migration crisis

Came across interesting figures, apparently, from the UN: there are 250 mln people in the world today who left their mother/fatherlands to permanently settle in foreign lands in search of better life. That's 3% of the world's population. But what's most poignant is that these 3% produce 10% of the w...

Re: electric vehicles in chile

Electric cars are still urban toys imho and would be impractical in the North of Chile, at least. Right now they couldn't even get halfway from Santiago to La Serena (470 km) without needing at least one recharge. And you can bet that those obligatory "fast charges" along the way will cost a lot mo...

Re: electric vehicles in chile

It's clear that propane or LNG is going to be cleaner, but how does it shake out in cost of mileage and range versus diesel/bencina/ev? Is it really so easy and cheap to convert almost any car or suv to propane if not LNG? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_gas_vehicle Interesting link. Didn't r...

Re: electric vehicles in chile

OK, perhaps I was wrong about Tesla making its own batteries. I am not sure. It does own its own battery making facility in the US but I didn't realize Panasonic was investing in it or partnering in it. But the point is that Panasonic owns all the intellectual property? I think Tesla gave Panasonic...

Re: electric vehicles in chile

On the liquid natural gas vehicles, it does look like they are less polluting than a petrol or diesel car, and quite possibly less polluting than an electric car. However, from a global warming standpoint, I think it's likely that an electric car would be better in most countries including the UK, ...

Re: electric vehicles in chile

Some good points admin. On the reliability/parts question, keep in mind that, as the Forbes article I posted says: "electric motors only have one moving part while engines in traditional automobiles contain dozens. Items that do not need to be replaced in electric vehicles include oil, fan belts, a...

Re: electric vehicles in chile

One of the reasons for the current Yellow Jacket unrest in France was a proposal to increase taxes to pay for an expensive alternative energy strategy. They intend to curtail their excellent nuclear power backbone, which incidentally would make an ideal match for electric vehicles. Chile should ren...

Re: Chile's Place in Latin America

i also have my doubts about the threat of the russian hyper sonic missiles. they are notoriously hard to make reliable. Well, so far the Russians are the only ones who've been able to make them operational and put them in serial production. China has conducted successful tests but I haven't heard o...

Re: electric vehicles in chile

You guys are tangling the concepts of energy source and energy carrier. There is no reason that carbon neutral cars cannot be powered by a regular liquid fuel. Like liquid or compressed natural gas. LNG. CNG. Methane. Industrial facilities can make the methane from carbon dioxide using the Sabatier...

Re: Big Brother is coming

So do you think they'll go all the way to confiscating Chinese property in the Five Eyes countries and putting them in camps like they did at the start of WWI (in Canada anyway)?
